St. Nicholas - Who is well known for his caring for the poor and his love for children, and of course where the modern legends of Santa Claus are based.

As Bishop of Myra he defended the city against the Arian heresy. A heresy that denied Jesus is God. In effect, denying the Holy Trinity. He was one of the Bishops at the Council of Nicaea.

Hey, wait, isn’t denying Jesus is God what the commericialism of Christmas dose? I think the Nativity Scene should be in more Christian houses, in honor of the Divinity and Humanity of Jesus Christ. I think St. Nicholas statues would also help us remember what Christmas is about: Jesus Christ coming into the world.

I LOVE St. Nicholas! Not Catholic but I still admire the old Saints. I studied everything I could find on him.

Ironically, many people have statues of St. Nicholas in their homes at this time of year. Just, they call him St. Claus.😉

St Nicholas is often portrayed with objects of three, signifying the Trinity, which he defended.

Legends also surrounding him: that he put three pouches of gold down a chimney in order to save three sisters from being sold into prostitution because they did not have a dowry.

I forgot all about it. Yesterday or day before I was trying to think of a last-minute plan for St. Nicholas’ Day but totally forgot.

Well - no, that’s incorrect.

Arius did not deny that Christ was God. He just believe that Christ was not an equal God to God the Father and that there was a time when Christ was not. Prior to Constantine’s council that was the orthodox belief.

It is both appropriate and ironic that we should find a modern version of the denial the Holy Trinity, in a thread that is venerating St. Nicholas.

I know exactly what you mean. Here in Singapore, Christmas is a commercial holiday and the streets of Orchard Road (Singapore’s famous shopping district) are lighted with Christmas ornaments meant to attract tourists and customers. And then you have the wannabe Christians who are Buddhists or Taoists rest of the year and suddenly are in the Christmas spirit decorating trees in their homes. It is an absolute disgust and mockery of our faith.

Of course it wouldn’t have been necessary if you hadn’t falsely claimed that Arius denied that Christ was God.

Remember that truthful posting never gets you into trouble.
