The best way to know what he did is to read his own words, most of the stuff about him like snakes is legend. The snake probably represents him driving out the evils of paganism.

The Irish ( of whom my hubs is a native Gaelic speaker) says the snakes were meant to convey the pagans.
Point of contention though…there literally are no (natural, native)snakes in Ireland. :irish3::shamrock2:

My kids also really liked the full length movie available on YouTube, it seems pretty straightforward with just a little legend (I’d like to think miracles) mixed in.

Saints really are larger than life, and the story surrounding them becomes larger still.

Agreed; I recall reading long ago that* snakes* referred to the Druid priests, but don’t remember where I read it.

Of course there are no snakes in Ireland…St Patrick got rid of them.
