ST Paul area Question

Hello all,

My family are moving to St Paul this summer. We went down there last weekend house hunting and fell in love with the White Bear Lake area. My question is, we attended a mass there and was more than a little disappointed. The parishioners stood for the consecration :nope: ! Very disappointing among other little things we are sure never to attend that church again. I was hoping that someone more familiar with the area may help us chose a better Church.

Well, unfortunately, you can find it all in the Twin Cities. But that does mean that there are orthodox parishes too! I am a parishoner of St. Agnes in St. Paul. I’m not sure, but I’d estimate that’s about a 25-30 min drive from White Bear Lake. (We drive 45 min to get there each Sunday)

St. Agnes is very orthodox and true to the magesterium. If you do a search here at CAF, you can find some other posts about it too.

Now, I know there is also a church – also in St. Paul – that has permission to celebrate the Tridentine Mass, but the name of it is escaping me. I’m sure someone else will chime in.

There are other choices that I’m sure people can recommend. I live in the southern part of the Twin Cities, so I can’t offer much more about the northern suburbs. Don’t worry, though. While there are parishes that I will not attend, there are many that I will and a few that I prefer.
 
St. Agnes (located on Thomas, a couple blocks east of Dale St.) and St. John’s in east St. Paul (located on Forest and 5th St.) would not be far from White Bear Lake. These two parishes seem to be traditional. They still have the altar rail, use only altar boys and do not use extraordinary ministers. Fr. Altier is at St. Agnes. I’d recommend either of these parishes. God bless you on your search.

St. Augustine down in south St. Paul is the church you are thinking of.
 
Thank you everyone for your wonderful suggestions. I will visit these parishes next time I am in the area to see which one would be best for us.

I Heard today that you are struggling with very dangerous wintry weather today in the Twin Cities as well as NW Wisc. I just got an email from my brother up there and he is experiencing a white out with already 18 of snow falling in just a matter of 4 hours. Power outages and all roads closed as well. We will pray for your safety
 
Other really good parishes that you might want to look into:
St. Raphael’s in Crystal (My favorite)
Epiphany in Coon Rapids
St. Michael’s in St. Michael
just in case your interested.

Yes, but it was also a winter wonderland that took my breath away. The snow on the trees was absolutely beautiful. It looked like what one would see in photographs except I was standing right in the middle of it, awed by the wonder of God’s wintery handiwork. Of course, I was shoveling inches and inches of snow at the time (asking myself WHY did I live here as I was doing it…) but stopped every now and again to look up. So lovely! Looking up reminded me that this is why I live here. PS It’s only dangerous if one tries to drive in it!

Hi,

I love St. Paul…but if you’re ever in the area - Go west to Excelsior by Lake Minnetonka. You’ll find a little church - St. John the Baptist - just south of Excelsior on Mill Street. We’re very orthodox and a very close - Family-like parish. We’d love to have you here too!

But I have to say that St. Agnes is really great!

Nice to see so many from the Twin Cities on this forum!
