Hello everyone: I’m new here & been browsing this site for a while now and reading all of your stories. I first came across St. Philomena by reading a thread on her from this site and she just peaked my interest. As a result, I started to read about her on a couple of other sites and also her shrine in Miami. (At which time when I was on that particular site I didn’t even realize the location of the shrine, I just browsed that site and was reading about her). Now after a few days of being on that site I then suddenly realized that it’s located in Miami …the funny thing is my family and I will be in Miami in May and it just so happens that the hotel we are staying at is approximately 20 minutes away from her shrine. So upon realizing all this, I ordered some devotional items from her shrine and I started to pray to her everyday. Could it be that there is a reason why I stumbled upon her shrine in Miami? Did St. Philomena bring me to that site so that I can visit the shrine when we are in Miami? Today as I was washing my dishes I’m talking to her and praying to her - then something told me to go to my mailbox. I finished my dishes and walked to my mailbox and sure enough the devotional items I ordered from her shrine were sitting there in a big brown envelope. I couldn’t believe it - I ran upstairs and locked myself in the bathroom looking at the items I ordered and thanking God and her over and over again. It just made my day!!! I just wanted to share this with you and let you know how inspirational this forum has been to me!! God Bless You all!! 😉
 
God Bless you! My husband and I have a devotion to St. Philomena. There is also her Living Rosary Association where you are assigned one decade of a Rosary to pray every day. She is very powerful. And we call all those little things that happen "GOD-incidence( I really need to invest in a dictionary so I can learn to spell again). God Bless

Thank you so much - I’m just beside myself right now. I’m literally moved to tears. I feel her presence. I have never felt this way before. I have always been devoted to St. Jude (still am as pray to him everyday too - hope St. Philomena doesn’t mind 🙂 But how could it be that this beautiful Saint has moved me to tears. I can’t explain it. Anyway, I would love to participate in the Living Rosary - where do I find info on it. Thanks again!!
 
God is His Mercy always provides for us his children as He did by bringing St. Philomena so profoundly in your life, He recently did it for me with Our Lady of Good Success. Anyway go to www.philomena.org and it will have all the information you will need. By the way my decade is the Assumption and my husband is the Crowning with Thorns. God Bless.
 
St. Philomena has helped me in so many ways…and still is!

Read as much as you can and rely on her as Our Lady said, To Philomena nothing is refused. She will never let you down!

The Shrine of Saint Philomena in Miami is run
by Father Timothy, and they are all very nice
people at that shrine and church.

However, you should be made aware that
the Shrine of Saint Philomena in Miami
is, unfortunately, an independent (schismatic)
Traditionalist shrine and church that is not in communion
with the Archdiocese of Miami nor with Rome.
When confirmations are held there at Easter,
a bishop from the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX)
performs the confirmations.

what he’s saying is that it’s not a roman catholic church.
it is run by a schismatic church, the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX).
SSPX says they are the true catholic church, but they are in error.

So would it be wrong to attend mass there?
 
just do a search on this site for SSPX or sedevacanists and you will learn a lot about them.
 
First- Yes you can wear the cord on your wrist if you feel the need. The shrine in Italy I think even used to sell wrist cords.

However, the general practice is to wear it around the waist. This is the way prescribed by the Church. This is the only way it can be worn to gain the indulgences.

Regarding the shrine in Miami, I would say one should not attend Mass there. They are certainly in schism. However, one can go and pray before the shrine for private devotional reasons as they would before any shrine of the saint. You can even light a candle if you want for St. Philomena. However, do not go to Mass there.

Also, I believe they have a true relic of the saint because it had the papers and came from Rome.

They are not under the authority of the SSPX or any other
Traditionalist group. But they do fraternize with the SSPX
and they are not in communion with the Archdiocese nor
with Rome.

Ironically, they could change this situation if they wanted to.
Since Pope Benedict’s Motu Proprio freeing the Tridentine Mass,
all they would need to do to regularize their status with the Catholic Church is ask the Archdiocese of Miami to be recognized as a Latin Mass Community under the auspices
of Pope Benedict XVI’s Motu Propio. I wish they would do that.
BEFORE I was confirmed in the Catholic Church, I attended one of their Tridentine Masses, and it was absolutely, breath-takingly beautiful. And yes, they do have a 1st Class Relic of Saint Philomena at the Shrine in Miami.

It is true, they are not in communion with Rome, but their Masses ARE valid, and it is not a sin to attend them.
It’s like just after the reformation, the Anglican “mass” was a valid mass. The first time the Anglican bishops ordained in the “new right” it lost it’s validity. But up until then, it was valid.

St. Philomena is my confirmation patroness. Thanks for the info on the cord! 🙂

From what I read about the shrine, they do have reception of Holy Communion…Isn’t the reception of Holy Communion apart of the catholic church?

As for the cord, I have a small one which I wear around my wrist. I hope that by wearing it around my wrist I’m not deviating from any devotion to St. Philomena. 🤷
