Recently a Carmelite nun gave me “St Teresa’s maternity powder” for my pregnant sister, telling me that many people put great faith in this at the time of labour. She said it is normally taken in a glass of water. She said it comes from the tomb of St Teresa of Avila.
I have never heard of this before, so I am wondering if anyone knows anything more, or could tell me the origin of this tradition, or what the background to it is, and what the powder actually is!!
