This is a good article on St. Therese as patron and helper of WWI soldiers, even before she was canonized. There’s an interesting link in the story to her Carmel where you can see photos of all the ex-votos and other memorials soldiers who were helped by Therese sent the sisters. We had a thread here a couple days ago on St. Joan of Arc. So interesting that little Therese, who never left the convent, was so active as a patron for warriors, just like her friend Joan of Arc!

There was one story on the Carmel website where a soldier got buried alive somehow and she appeared to him and pulled him out.

She so longed for an exciting life as a missionary or soldier and instead had to make the best of dealing with a lot of petty stuff in a convent and then being sick in bed. It sounds like God let her have all the adventures after death she couldn’t have in life.

Well said. It gives hope to all of us with relatively boring but faithful lives. She was bold enough to want and expect everything from God–and she got it. I think she once said that we will get from God exactly what we expect. Good lesson in that!
