As I’m watching the fully televised funeral of “Stan the Man” and hear more and more of the stories his friends and family are relating, I’m really impressed at what an amazing role model he was for several generations. It seems that beside his being a baseball star, he was also a man of charity, a Godly man, a devoted husband, and a very community-minded man in his own humble way. How many current famous sportmen can say the same? How many men who are notable on any front can say the same? When one looks at the media, it’s only violence, dishonesty, sexual immorality, selfishness, stupidity, cruelty, and greed as far as the eye can see. It seems today’s young boy has to really search far and wide to find a man to look up to, and this is especially sad given the fact that so many young boys don’t even have their own father in their home. So anyway, I’m thankful for the life of Stan Musial and anyone else who has a positive influence on those who look up to them.
