I don’t think there is one mode (specifically kneeling or standing) that is inherently, absolutely more reverent. There is still a problem, though, with the transition to standing in the Latin Church for what I see as two main reasons. First off, I’ve never been informed of any pastoral necessity for the shift. Second, standing has not replaced kneeling in Western culture as a sign of reverence and I doubt that many individuals in the communion line consider the default position of standing (they have to be up to approach the sacrament anyway) an act of reverence toward the Eucharist. If there were a legitimate replacement for kneeling, which I admit is no longer as culturally/secularly relevant as a sign of reverence, I could see the justification. But instead of replacing it, the reverence was just dropped altogether. Respect for the sacred is a foreign concept to much of today’s Catholic youth.
