Which one of the two movies feels more necessary?
  • “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”
  • “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”

Rogue One, in my opinion, is on par with the original trilogy. Loved it! Force awakens is really good, better than any of episodes 1-3, but not as good as 4-6.

Not that you asked but here’s how I rank the 7 movies…

5, 4, rogue one, 6, 7, 4, 3, 1, 2.

Well, obviously the Force Awakens is more necessary since we now have more Star Wars movies. Yet, I enjoyed Rogue One a lot more than I did the Force Awakens.

No offense, edtaylor51, but you said “4” twice.

I haven’t seen either The Force Awakens or Rogue One all the way through yet. Which one feels more like an entry in the original trilogy? The Force Awakens features Harrison Ford’s (presumably) final appearance as Han Solo, who interacts with Chewbacca. (Um, does Luke Skywalker act more or less like Obi-Wan Kenobi in this flick?) However, Rogue One features CGI versions of Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia, plus some other characters from the original Star Wars movie (Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope) make brief appearances.

That’s what I get for typing on my phone.

5,4,r1,6,7,3,1,2

Rogue one sets up tha plot for A New Hope, so in that sense it feels very much like one of the originals. I think how force awakens ends up fitting in is to be determined yet, we will have to see where this story ends up with episodes 8 and 9.

I’m not much of a fan of the series, but I liked ‘Rogue One’ more than any others. I voted Rogue One before I read the question, not sure in regards to necessity.

Oh definitely Force Awakens for me even though I did like Rogue One.

Rogue One was a fun movie, but I didn’t like the ending. I know why it had to be that way (the story having to fit in between two existing films), but I still didn’t like it. I have to go with Force Awakens since it is a good start for a new set of films. I am hoping this trilogy will be like the original trilogy, getting better with each one.

I really liked the first three Star Wars movies 4, 5, 6 although 6 (return of the Jedi) seemed to repeat a lot of 4 (a new Hope) with attempting to blow up the death star again.

I quite liked the next three movies also 1, 2, 3 although of course time wise the special effects were much more modern and this disjointed the series but that really couldn’t be helped.

When I watched The Force Awakens though I honestly was disappointed because it just seemed the movie was rushing from scene to scene re-hashing similar themes from before with uninteresting characters. I honestly thought the movie was like a parody of itself.

So because of that I haven’t watched Rogue 1.

Wouldn’t you know it. Rogue I just started on TV. The mother just got shot by stormtroopers. Is it sacrilege to go out and get something to eat? lol

I love Max Rebo!!!

OK, the ending was pretty good. Certainly better than The Force Awakens. I’ve copied it down from the internet now so I will watch the middle of the movie tomorrow. Looks like a Star Wars night. A new Hope is on now and is at least the 4th Star Wars movie in a row,
