Hi Everyone I am just about to start my RCIA process. I don’t start until September but I am actually really excited for all of it to start. I have been thinking about becoming Catholic for a few years now and finally decided this was the right time. I just have a few questions, would it be a problem for me to have to leave in February? I am going into the military and that is when I’m leaving for basic training. I told them when I registered for the classes that I would have to leave then and they said that I would just have to talk to Father. Would I still be able to become Catholic at the end during an Easter Vigil at the parish I will be moving to? I really hope this doesn’t effect anything and hopefully we can somehow get in contact with the parish in Texas where I will be moving to.

I am so happy I found this site, thank you all so much for your help and God bless.

This is something to take up with your RCIA team. Let them know.

Make sure your starting parish and your ending parish are communicating well with each other about your situation - as long as that’s happening, I don’t foresee any problems.

Welcome to the journey! 🙂

Most parishes close to military bases, and of course, base chaplains are used to people being transfered and can work with you. Talk to your current pastor and the pastor/chaplain you are moving to.

Best wishes! Welcome!.
Thanks be to God for your conversion. I hope and pray it will transform life for you. I’ll keep you in my prayers. Trishie

Thank you everyone, I have been talking with my sister about it also and she decided she will be going as well. Even though we don’t live near each other we will still be able to enjoy this process together, and I am so happy she will be experiencing this with me.

I will not know if the other parish will agree to me coming at such short notice until our first meeting on September 18th but thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers!

Yes, you will be able to switch parishes and be Baptized or Received where you are at Easter, your pastor will coordinate this with the priest serving the military base you will be at.

There’s nothing to stop you from meeting with the pastor now and explaining your situation. That’s probably better than showing up on the first night and saying “I have a problem…”

Best wishes to you as you take these steps into the Church.

Thanks 🙂 I did get a letter from the Church and they said they would like for me to start going every Sunday up until RCIA, so I will be going this Sunday and talking with them about it.
