I’ve noticed several saint statues with human skulls at the feet, what is that about?

I’m converting to the church now and just want to know.

jesusluv 👋

Welcome home! :clapping:

Which saints are you talking about?

Hmm, it would help if you could give us the name of the saint. My guess is it might be a saint that helped people during the plague. Just a guess.

One in particular was St. Frances of Assisi at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, AL. www.olamshrine.com
I found this:
Representation of St. Francis holding the skull. The skull is a symbol of the transitory nature of life on earth and pentinent saints such as St. Francis of Assisi are often depicted with the skull in one hand.

Thank you for such a quick response and for your help. That answers my question.

The more mature St. Gerard statues have a skull that he is stepping on to represent evil. He was a Redemptorist priest. It is difficult to find these statues however.
