How exactly would you like the church to do to “reinforce its teaching”? Just curious what you mean by that.
Fair enough…I would say put em on the rack… Just kidding…😃

actually I would say preach about it…in love…not to dance around it trying to be PC…of course to be fair…that comes more from my Protestant church then my current Catholic parish. Part of that desire comes from seeing my old church keep watering down and watering down the truth.

Anything is possible with God. No I mean run me out of the CC since I am a member according to Church teaching.
I thought we were in agreement that this is a spiritual impossiblity? As a baptized Catholic, you can excommunicate yourself by acting against the Church teaching, You can fail to be united to the imperishable treasure that is kept in heaven for you, but no one can “run you out”.
But come to think of it unless the Church changes who She defines as a member that’s not possible. I guess the worst you can do is make me feel so unwelcome that I come to believe God is leading me elsewhere.
Actually, no one has that much power over you, CMatt. As a child of God your feelings belong only to yourself. You can give your power over to others, and let them control you. In that case, you can blame your actions on others, but no one can “make” you feel unwelcome.

If you feel unwelcome because you have been confronted about causing a public scandal and representing yourself on CAF in a disingenuous manner, then you can easily address that by changing your behavior. I guarantee that you will not be confronted about pretending to be Catholic if you don’t do it. 😃
 Guan, that wasn’t my post. Please don’t quote me when I didn’t say the quote.
Very sorry CM. Typo on my part. :o
Apples and oranges are what you’re comparing. I don’t need faith in the textnooks about the Phillipines. Ppl still walking the earth today who have actually been there or live there today can let me know what they speak. Same as there’s no reason for me to believe the moon is made of cheese. I actually watched Neil Armstrong take his first step onto the surface. And I knew it wasn’t cheese when he couldn’t make a reuben sandwich out of it. 😃
No, not apples and oranges. She is talking about your epistemology. It is flawed.

Besides, you have no way of knowing that what they showed on TV was really the moon, or just a fabrication. You know they can create whole sets…

Look what the govt did in Roswell! 😛

I actually thought Rome does a great job of holding the line and not dancing around the issue. You got to give em credit…they just came right out with the condemnation of condom use for married couples when one spouse has HIV. No sugarcoating that.

I actually appreciate their stance on abortion…I’ve been if far to many churches where they stopped preaching about it because their main contributors were pro-choice. And on the list went…until all you got was an I’m ok/you’re ok sermon…

I appreciate the way our priest talks about it…with firm love…letting people know that if you’ve had one…there is healing…but that it IS wrong…

I think its pretty naive to say that the Catholic Church doesn’t really need the weekly contributions of a billion people. Not a criticism, just a fact. All churches need cash.
No, it is not naive, and no, it is not a fact, and no, all churches don’t need cash. I think it is clear from the NT that the church was impoverished, and still thriving. Now, I will concede that the Church would not be able to provide as much education, medical services,a nd aid to the poor, if she did not have as much income, but it is perfectly possible to be Catholic with no worldly goods whatsoever.
Code:
It's also pretty naive to believe that dissenters don't give alms. Maybe we can subtract the contributions of CMatt, the Speaker of the House, and the 90% of Catholics who dissent from Rome's teaching and see if the bishops have enough to keep the lights on. Probably has something to do with why they don't push the issue.
Well, if you are right, then the issue does need to be pushed. Jesus was clear that we cannot serve both God, and mammon. It would be better to be poor, and pure, don’t you think?
Code:
Kind of disingenuous to me though. My money is good enough for Catholic Church even though my soul isn't good enough for heaven.
The state of your soul is between you and God. Of course the CC is happy to have contributions from anyone, whether they are hellbound or not. In fact, you make a good point. A person may be trying to assuage their guilt by giving alms?
One would think that the more charitable route would be to refuse the money as a rebuke toward a sinner. I wouldn’t take money from a pimp or a drugdealer to pay my bills. That’s called integrity.
Indeed.

Being a Catholic for me is a privilege. I came later to the Church after many years of not attending any church. I regret this every day. storm
Thank you for your story. I recently came back to the Catholic Church after a long absence…20+ years. It has led me to a love for Christ greater then I’ve ever known. I too was grieving the time I’ve spent away…I took it to confession. That’s what the prodigal son is all about. Then that night I was watching the Journey Home and saw this one priest story…and he said…our conversions are not just our own…they are to be used for the glory of His kingdom. Kind of comforting when you think about it.

God Bless!

No, CARV. You seem to have a misunderstanding about the role of the Bishop… If he is doing his duty to feed and care for the flock, then it will be clear who the weeds are,

Really? Like what? They own the country, and all the buildings in it, and are sitting on plenty of assets in the library and museums. I think Rome will be fine. 😃

If you are under some misapprehension that nominal Catholics are paying tithes, then I think you need to read some research. People that don’t follow the teachings of the Church don’t financially support her either.
So if he’s not doing his duty and caring for the flock, then he’s a weed and not a true Apostolic successor? As in by their fruits we shall know them?

But Guan, unfortunately they’d have greater assets to serve the poor with if they weren’t having to make payments due to scandalous bishops not caring for the flock. 🤷

And I didn’t know that! You say I don’t follow teachings and now you tell me ppl like me don’t support the Church financially. I wish you had told me that earlier before I dropped money into the basket. Ok well maybe next wk!
