I have a great desire for a spiritual retreat. I’ve done the Ignatius retreat here locally and enjoyed them. That’s not an option with this Covid stuff.

I was thinking about throwing a tent up in my back field and dedicating 24 hours to simple living and prayer. I’ll try to keep the kids away! I’ll leave my phone at the house and bring some simple meals to cook.

Anyone ever done anything like this? I guess the more I type it, it sounds more like just a camping trip. Lol. But really I’d like it to be a get-away with God and nature.

Thoughts? Other ideas on how to do something like this myself?

Everyone should do this at least once a month! I do it by cleaning the whole house and spending as long as I can alone (one day to seven, usually three) in prayer, fasting, scripture reading, and meditation. It definitely works like a mini-retreat and is a great way to meet God and bless every month! Good luck on yours! ❤️

Reminds me immediately of Antony of the Desert and sounds like a fantastic idea. If I were to do something like this, reading a copy of “Sayings of the Desert Fathers” would be the perfect match.

The stripping away of modernity will always bring us closer to the spirit inside us all. To distinguish between what we would like compared to what is necessary is a good start.

We took a family camping trip twice last year. Neither one would rank anywhere close to what I’d compare with some retreats I’ve had at nearby monasteries, but just due to the more primative settings, they did lend themselves quite well to prayer for the “bookend” hours of the day (I’m always awake before the rest of the family and often the last to sleep).

There are also some online retreat options you can follow along with for a brief time each day. I did this with my congregation I’m attached to since we couldn’t have our regular retreat in person. Not the same, but better than nothing if you need a “program”.

I have a garden area outside my bedroom window…I have the Mother Mary there, flowers, and a birdbath. Inside my bedroom, I have a comfortable chair in the corner near this window. It is my peaceful place to pray, listen to music, or read. I am so Blessed having this spot to call my own…I also have a candle on a little table to light for Rosary Praying…so peaceful…also a great spot in the morning to enjoy a cup of coffee while saying my morning Prayers! 😌
