I am struggling tremendously with remaining close to God in my mind and heart when at my secular workplace which is a manufacturing plant i.e. “factory”. I find myself very angry because for one, I despise the work I do, it causes me unbelievable back pain and pain in my shoulders and legs. It is straight manuel labor with bending, lifting, pushing, pulling etc. I am 55 years old and not in great shape for this work like when I was in my younger years. And I just hate it. It is mind-numbing, boring, monotonous and often aggravating. One wrong move and product is damaged. And I find myself annoyed with coworkers who stand around and waste time or walk back and forth away from work. It is none of my business but for some reason it bothers me. There’s other things, several things that are a stumbling block but bottom line I hate my job. The pay is not good either so there is no consolation. I don’t want to be angry and bitter at work and then have to beg forgiveness of God. Changing jobs won’t be doable for awhile maybe months away. I need closeness and faithfulness to God NOW and here at this place. It is so very, very difficult.

But why where there only one set of footprints when you were in the most difficult part of your life? That is when Jesus was carrying you. 🙂 It is only through the trials in our younger years that we see who we want to be and should be as a person.

I, too, get easily frustrated at work. I also work in a service industry and often find myself confronting problems beyond my control that I still have to find solutions for. I’ve found the best way to reset my mind and refocus my thoughts to God is to repeat a short prayer internally as I work. I’ll admit that my anger sometimes gets the best of me, I’ll lash out, and tools have been known to fly around.😬 Eventually I calm down and, as I collect my tools, I’ll say a quick prayer and remind myself that God is with me and will help me solve any problem I may face.

Fraevo, are you able to wear earplugs and listen to music or books on tape at work? It may take some of the boredom out of work, and help distract you from other workers walking about.
