I remeber watching the world over on ewtn (I can’t remeber when sorry) and they were discussing (both embyronic and adult) stem cell reshearch. This one preist gentleman (I can’t remeber his name) was talking about adult embryionic stem cell research was alright and has actually made signifigant breakthroughs (though limited by lack of funding) as apossed to embryonic which has been shown to be unstable and rather risky to ones health. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this? Is there anywhere website, book, or otherwise that I could look up on this? Thanks and God bless.

I’m actually pro stem cell research of all kinds, but I’ll tell you what I know from what I’ve gathered mostly from my mother, who is a nurse, just keep in mind this isn’t 100% correct, I’m just telling you what I’ve learned. Embyronic stem cells are great because we can manipulate them to what we need, so that makes them great for medical purposes. Umbilical are extremely great also, but we cannot manipulate them. Adult stem cells are good for illnesses such as luekymia (sic) and a couple others. I guess that gives you a decent summary.

Just keep in mind this isn’t necesarilly 100%, just from what I’ve learned, so don’t shoot the messenger on this one if I’m wrong in some way, but I trust most of this is pretty accurate.

Do you think that using aborted fetesus for embryonic stemsell research is okay?

Consider yourself both not shot as well as wrong.

Embyronic stem cells have been used to cure absolutely nothing. There isn’t a single use of ESC that has even made it to clinical trials. Basically, all ESC have proven “good” for is causing cancer in laboratory animals.

Other stem cells – adult, umbilical, et cetera – are being used right now to successfully treat people.

The moral issues you challenge it with do not apply to me if that’s what you mean.

Do you have a site with this information, preferably not religious, more of a neutral view. I wouldn’t mind learning more about it myself. But I would rather see information collected by a non-religious team. I’ve noticed if it’s ever a Catholic study the results almost always seem to support what the Catholic religion supports. That does not necesarily make them wrong, but still I would trust information by a group not associated with a religion much better.

Go to any old search engine (I’m throwing in a suggestion that EVERYONE use www.prolifesearch.com because it contributes money to mostly Catholic, pro-life causes with each hit)
and search “Focus on the Family” mesanchymal or mesenchymal stem cell
Also consider a forum search here as many, inluding myself, have already posted informative links with both scientific and religious significance for those with varying degrees of scienve or medical knowledge.

And all from secular sources, as per the Black Ghost’s orders 😉

Is the Black Ghost left speechless? 😃
Hahaha.

No.

I never said I was completely for embryonic stem cells. If other stem cells work better, then so be it, I just believe that the lives of our living are more important then that of the dead. I read a few of the articles posted, it’s always nice to gain new knowledge, but I’m not about to fully renounce research into embryonic stem cells. It’s still early. As more studies are conducted I’ll further determine what would be better suited for our society, and if that includes ruling out embryonic stem cell research, then that’s fine if it is a useless field to pursue.

And about my delay in posting, it would be a waste of a post, what should I write? “I read some of the articles…words were read.”

I hate to be self-promoting, but I think its important that Catholic’s understand these issues. My website, www.MaryMeetsDolly.com has lots of easy to understand information and resources on stem cell research and cloning in light of the Church’s teaching on the sancity of human life.
