I do believe that the Lord is telling/has led me to the Stephen Ministry, to be a recipient of care.

Today I spoke with the leader and the Deacon, and perhaps I’m being led back to my old parish. There’s quite a bit to discern!

Meanwhile, if you are involved with Stephen Ministry, would you please share how it has enriched your life? I’m open to encouragement!

my late father was a recipient from a Stephen ministry in the Methodist Church.
He was a stroke victim with repeated strokes afterward which eventually crippled him.
He was regularly visited by different Stephen ministers which just came to offer conversation, compassion and friendship. I also think it helped my mother as well being his caretaker. I wasn’t aware of this in the Catholic Church but that was a pretty big ministry in the Methodist and I assume other Christian Churches. I hope this helps see it from a family member of a recipient.

My step mother was a Stephen minister in the Methodist church. She has now passed but she loved being a Stephen minister and it greatly enriched her life. She often spoke about visiting people and just being a companion in people’s situations.

I don’t know about the specifics as I am Catholic and she was a Methodist but she loved the ministry and was one until she was unable to with her cancer.

I saw your thread earlier, and have been going back forth about posting. Stephen Ministers are instructed not to discuss our ministry, even in general terms. This confidentiality extends to a spouse, family, friends, etc.

So let me answer your question this way–there are people who simply need someone to listen to them, hold their hands, and sometimes, dry their tears.

I don’t think it matters what I get out of it, it’s not about me.

Thanks. When I asked, “if you are involved,” that could Mrs. either as a recipient or a giver. Obviously, I’m asking as a potential recipient.

i will pray that this will minister to your needs as a recipient. I know both my parents benefited from the visitors they had. Even though it was meant for my late father, my late mother likewise felt ministered to and in fact the people that came became friends to her and she would talk about them. I think it is a beautiful service.
