Do stonings still occur in orthodox Judaism? Where it doesn’t occur, how is that explained within the religion?
It was pretty hard to get yourself executed even in biblical times - the standard of proof required was extremely high. Just taking the Torah as a guide to Jewish Law is a bit like taking the American Constitution and saying that it’s the whole of US Law, Torah is the context but there’s the whole of what is known as Oral Torah, the huge tradition of argument and interpretation to be taken into account as well.Do stonings still occur in orthodox Judaism? Really? That’s interesting! I’m discussing capital punishment on another thread and lots of OT examples are being used.It was pretty hard to get yourself executed even in biblical times - the standard of proof required was extremely high. This is from My Jewish Learning which is a good site for checking on Jewish teaching on all sorts of things.
