Stopping at the church and praying?

I guess one of the perks of living in a ridiculously small town is that vandalism and crime rates are rather low everyone knows everyone in my town haha. Yeah, I feel very happy that my church is unlocked during week days. This is one of the things that attracted me to the Catholic faith, because many of the other churches in my town are open strictly on Sunday only. Frankly, the people that go to those churches act as though Sunday is all too tedious and taxing for them. That confuses me, because I love having the opportunity to visit Jesus at the tabernacle!

There have been many times when I have been feeling anxious or down, and I get an urge to go to my local church just to sit down and pray and give my feelings up to God. There are also times when I’ll be passing the church in my car, and I’ll get the urge to go inside and pray for my friends and family when they are in times of need. The only thing that is stopping me is that I’m worried about what I’m dressed in. I know this may sound ridiculous, but I am still quite new to the Catholic faith, and I am afraid of offending anyone. If it’s a case where I’m simply driving through town, obviously I won’t be dressed in my finest. My clothing isn’t inappropriate or anything, it’s just not very sophisticated or dressy. On Sundays I always dress my best, but I haven’t been there any other day just on the chance of passing by or anything, so any help/advice would be great!

The Lord Jesus went first to the blind, sick, lepers, poor, sinful, tax-collectors, and outcasts. It was His delight to be with the fishermen, carpenters, and fools. I seriously doubt that the finery of the poor in Jerusalem could measure up to the lowliest sweat-pants & dirty old t-shirt that we wear today. Christ rejoices in your urge to be with Him at all times! On quiet weekdays, disregard your clothing and appearance - just be with Him before the tabernacle.

Now, if you were going to the holy, sacred Mass, the divine liturgy of the Church, of Christ, I would say that you’d best dress for the Visitation of the King. That’s different from a day-to-day visit, however.

Go ahead and go in! You are lucky you can; most churches in my diocese are locked up during the week (because of the crime rate) and we can’t go in at all.

Same here, regrettably: when my stepdaughter was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer I wanted to stop in and pray, and the doors were locked.
When my stepdaughter was declared in remission, I wanted to stop in and say “Thank You” and the doors were locked.
A pox on crime.
Those rascally criminals are making it hard on the rest of us!

I’m on the rota for the overnight hours at our adoration chapel, and there’s a dress code for that. but I’ve stopped by late nights on the spur of the moment without worrying about what I’m wearing.
