I remember this story.
I think there are some people who turn to God or religion when they’ve lost someone they love. It is comforting to them. They want to believe their loved one doesn’t die and that they will see them again.

This good explanation needs refinement.

We know *intellectually *that God exists, because his law is written in our hearts, hence the ability to distinguish good from evil, desiring freedom, etc.

However, because of pride, fostered by our fallen nature, we may not know *emotionally *that God exists.

Therefore, in order to fully acknowledge and comprehend God’s existence, one must experience him emotionally. The death of a beloved family member is a great opportunity for this, because of its innate ability to break down the fortresses of pride.

The Atheist who read the diary realized emotionally that God exists via the everlasting zeal of his wife. As Christ said, lamps are meant to shine throughout the world. After this lady’s lamp was finally shown, the love of God was fully realized.
