It’s my understanding that the woman who founded the Padre Pio Shrine In PA mentioned in the article had a baby daughter who was born with a serious birth defect. I think the baby was born without a bladder. The woman suddenly had a private revelation that she should take her daughter to see Padre Pio in Italy, so she did, and managed to see him twice and have him bless her daughter. Shortly afterwards her daughter started growing a bladder. So this woman and her family promoted devotion to Padre Pio and eventually built the shrine. Because of a dispute with the diocese, lots of Catholics around here don’t even know it exists although it’s only about an hour away from Philadelphia.
