St Thomas the Apostle: “Didymus, the Twin” - A twinning reflection of Jesus Christ in him

My name is Thomas. I aspire to live a life true to my sinful state, to myself, to God and to His people. In my sinfulness, I hope that others may see the unworthiness and flaws in me. They will begin to see how helpless and vulnerable I am.

Yet, I aspire to live a holy life, so radically holy and good as opposed to my sinful state. In that, I hope that people will question me, “where does all these goodness and love come from?
  • May God use me to demonstrate to His people that His love is freely given and not earned.
  • May God use me to demonstrate to His people that the only necessity of my life is God, and without God, there is no life in me.
I aspire to be a twinning reflection of Jesus Christ in my best capacity. As I am writing this, I experience immense fear and worries of criticism, judgement, mockery, and many more… But, in all failures and victories in my life, may I always freely live my life for God and His people, cooperate with Him in all situations, and trust that He will complete the rest in His time. At every moment of my life, I hope to always say, "Not my will, but Yours be done."

St. Thomas the Apostle: Many identify him as Doubting Thomas, for he was skeptical of the Resurrected Christ when the other disciples shared the Good News with him! He yearned to experience Christ personally with all his humanly senses.
“Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and place my fingers in the mark of the nails, and place my hands in his side, I will not believe.” (John 20:25)
Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:5-6)
Apparently, other non-scriptural writings recorded that when he was called to spread the Gospel to the far Eastern countries including India, he was also skeptical and unwilling to go. To leave his home to a foreign land, where Hinduism had already flourished for more than 2000 years. Yet again, we see his doubtfulness.

St. Thomas the Apostle: "Faithful Thomas"
Much less was emphasized about the courage and trust he had in Jesus Christ. When Jesus Christ proposed to go to Bethany after the death of Lazarus,
Thomas said to the other apostles, “Let us also go to die with him” (John 11:16)
Upon recognizing the Resurrected Christ, Thomas said
“My Lord and My God!” (John 20:28)
He also allegedly died for his faith whilst spreading the Gospel - stabbed with a spear in AD 72 while in prayer on a hill in Mylapur, India. The martyrdom of St Thomas - to live and die for Jesus Christ - drove me to question his doubtful nature.

St Thomas the Apostle: “Truthful Thomas”.
Rather than seeing St Thomas the Apostle as a man of doubts, I saw him as a man true to his sins, true to God and His people about his sins.
  • It is in his brokenness, that the light of Christ could shine so brightly!
  • It is in his sufferings, that unravels the absolute and sole necessity of Jesus Christ in his life.
  • It is in his struggles, that people like me could connect deeper with Jesus Christ through him.

I had a red betta fish once. His name was Phillip.
I had one named Claude. He was named after my Western Civ professor.

I later had one named by the 2 classes of 4th graders I was teaching. His name was PancakeRockstar.

St. Dymphna and St. Mary Magdalene. I am always inspired by martyrs. St. Dymphna was so brave. She is the patron saint of mental illness, something that I deal with. I really relate to St. Mary Magdalene. I also am considering St. Therese as my patron saint because of her humility and trust in God, something that I need more of.

St. Therese is my patron saint. Her little way inspires me; but I felt the biggest pull to choose her as my patron because she died at the age of 24 on September 30th. My Birthday is September 30th AND I found the Catholic church at the age of 24, Thanks be to God and my now husband, entered at 25. I still think about it from time to time and have a WOW moment. I invoke her prayer not daily but very regularly. She is a lovely saint.

I’ll take the Hebrew meaning of my actual first name: “David” = “beloved”.

@Irishmom2: I won’t give out my real name either but since this is titled Story-telling here is one about the nickname my husband gave me. He used to call me Clancy because he said that when he fell in love with me, I lowered the boom on him as in the song of same name. It means he got a KO punch and didn’t see it coming! This was a private joke and I loved it as it pertained to my Irish heritage plus his love for me. 🍀
