Has anybody here ever been on the receiving end of a “Street Preacher’s” ministry?

We had a fellow come around here during the Papal visit, who posted under the name, “someotherguy” who called himself a Street Preacher. He talked about bringing people to Jesus.

This seems to be an organized operation.

This seems to bear little resemblance to our very own Catholic Evidence Guild.

Just go to our downtown district in Chicago, and there’s a person on every other corner pitching for one or another faith…passing out handbills etc. They may or may not be organized, but the one thing they have in common…is a free will donation cup along side of them. makes you wonder.

That’s not what I’m talking about. The “Street Preachers” I am referring to are belligerantly anti-Catholic, anti-gay, anti-you-name-it and yell at people.

A poster here gave me links to a couple of You-Tube videos they made during the Papal visit. Oi.

Hello 🙂

FYI, the sites you have linked are not by the banned poster ‘someotherguy’. ‘somotherguy’ may have said that he was part of a group with did some street preaching when our Holy Father visited the U.S., but these are not the videos he was speaking of. Even though he is banned from this forum (probably for a very good reason), we must not speak misinformation about other people. I don’t think his ‘streetpreaching’ is nearly as famous as you think it is. Even though you did not state that these sites directly represented him, he is now on an anti-Catholic forum referring to this thread among others which is neither helpful to the folks here nor there; actually it has given them a reason to discuss this forum in a negative light along with all Catholics in general.

He did not provide to anyone here with a link to the videos which he said were online and to provide a link to two ‘possible’ sites is misleading at best.

From the other site:
Code:
**Roman Catholics and lying in order to demonize their oponents**
Recently, I posted on Catholic.com under the name someotherguy and a thread was started about me, based on my comments about our trip to Washington and New York City to share the Gospel with Roman Catholics gathered there to see the pope.
Several times, after making these comments, people went on YouTube.com and found the most damning, Fred Phelps-style videos they could find and claimed that we were the people in the videos.

I tried constantly to explain that, not only did we not do the kinds of things in those videos and that things like the ranting and screaming in the videos would never be tolerated, but that we didn’t even post our videos on YouTube.

You can see an example of one of these threads here:

[moderator deleted link]
And it isn’t just this one person. There are several people who made these accusations.

So, I guess my question is why do Roman Catholics think that this is okay? I’m assuming they would think it’s wrong if Christians did the same to them, so why don’t they consider it wrong when they do it to us?
Now the bee’s nest has been smashed open providing a MacGuffin for the anti-Catholics.

Please folks, if you post please be sure that it is in order to give glory to God. Some of us are in the deepest trenches engaged in apologetics and we really don’t need any help with nonsense like this. 🤷

Peace be with you,

Kelly

Well, I had no intent to misrepresent “someotherguy” or anybody else. And I apologize if the links I posted in any way appeared to misrepresent him.

He said he was a street preacher. So when I looked up “street preacher”, those links showed up.

That said, “someotherguy’s” presence here in no way would have suggested that he is NOT a member of the group such as those seen on these videos. Now you point out that he is accusing us (namely, me) of misrepresenting him. Does he really think my question is about HIM?

Really: this is not about “someotherguy” except insofar as he called himself a street preacher.

He say’s we’re lying about him? We don’t need to do that. He speaks eloquently in his own behalf.

I want to thank you for posting this. After reading it for the third time, I find someotherguy’s post perfectly consistent with everything he posted here in his brief tenure.

Again: he called himself a street preacher. I looked up “street preachers” and found web pages that indicated that there is an organized movement with this name.

If it is not the organization someotherguy works with, perhaps he should characterize himself as something other than a “street preacher.”

Thanks for the quick reply. He is very highly sensitive I suppose, but this topic only stirred up a bees nest. 😃 Just so you know, on the other site there are two Catholic forums - one for Catholic theology discussion and one for not-so-serious topics. If a Catholic posts a thread sharing upset at being mocked and called all sorts of names it is sent to the ‘other’ forum. If a non-Catholic posts a thread where his/her feelings are hurt, it stays on the main forum. Do you feel my frustration?! 👍 On their forum, Catholics are ‘whiners’ and offered ‘some cheese with the whine’ and non-Cs are embraced and thanked for their attempts at sharing the Gospel with us heathens. 🤷

God bless you! 🙂

Thanks for keeping an eye on these things. I have NO stomach for it. You will never find me wandering around in a Protestant apologetics forum trying to “convert the heretics.” But I admire those who can observe patiently.

If non-Catholics come here, I’m prepared to explain the faith. I try not to get into debates. As a convert and therefore, completely at peace with my Catholic faith, I see no point in debate. Nothing doctrinal is up for discussion as if it were undecided. The best I can do is try to lay it out in language that can be apprehended by someone who does not share a foundation of Catholic culture and Catholic thought.

Bees nest? Just an observation, but anything anybody says on this site would likely stir up a bees nest with some of these people. There seems to be a culture of casting everything we say in the worst possible light.

Oh, we are just deceived and brainwashed. When we say something about their beliefs – we’re in the company of satan. :bigyikes: Just for an example, I’ll give you some of the replies to the thread started by ‘someotherguy’ aka Mike:
They are just doing as Romanism has done since the Dark Ages, lie, cheat, deceive, invent “facts” and do the work of their father, the devil.
Romanism is a false religion, a wolf in sheep’s clothing
Wrong, the Roman Catholic religion is not Christ’s Church. Never has been and never will be. Roman Catholicism developed into it’s own separate religion from the Dark Ages forward.
From Mike (someotherguy):
The phrase “preaching to the choir” refers to those who share your beliefs. In this case, they did not share our beliefs.

Judging from the number of Catholics who became Christians that week, they weren’t in the choir.
To a Catholic:
You are told to stop whining because Romanists are programmed to play the victim card and whine at the slightest thing, and are constantly imagining things in order to be offended and play the victim card, like you are doing now.
To a Catholic:
Stop covering up. It’s obvious they were attempting to tie in him with a fanatical group. We can see right through the motivation to paint “someotherguy” as “belligerantly anti-Catholic, anti-gay, anti-you-name-it and yell at people. A poster here gave me links to a couple of You-Tube videos they made during the Papal visit. Oi.”

It’s a smear champaign and shows a lack of Christian charity on the part of the person to posted that.
Yep, it’s the old tactic of guilt by association, and Rome has been at it for a long time.
They aren’t persecuting you but are persecuting the Gospel you are proclaiming in love. Ultimately they are persecuting Christ Himself in which they are hurling their hatred towards. We should keep those in bondage in prayer because they are blinded to the truth that can only be found in Christ alone for their salvation.

I would be interested in doing some kind of evangelical work as what you did. I’ve had a lot of training on-line and definately developed a thicker skin because of it.
You get the idea… 😃

God bless you,

Kelly

Yes. I was comprehensively schooled in the method during the two or three days when “someotherguy” posted around 250 of his 367 posts on at least four different threads last month.
