Strong arguments against Christopher West's marriage/sexuality books

Im sorry but I dont see why that is odd at all. People are bashing him for having said it is snot against Church teaching. We are saying the same exact thing - it is not against church teaching.

What opposite argument are we making?

I don’t have the book, but from what I understand, he said the Church is not against it but then goes on to list some reasons why he doesnt think it would be a good idea.

Actually, I am arguing that 1. The church has no position on it, and 2. We are free to form our own opinion on the morality of the act (given careful consideration to church teaching regarding sexuality)

I have the opinion that it is licit (same opinion as Jone), but I have 0 problem with those who have the opinion that it is not. Therefore I have 0 problem with West.

What I DO have a problem with is people claiming that those of us who believe the act to be licit are going against Church teaching, or being bad Catholics.

I suspect that male-only environments make a difference in forming sexual tastes.

One of my old Russian friends once told me about her discovery (as a fairly naive young bride) that her husband (who was a Russian or Soviet military officer and had gone to military school) was very keen on anal sex. They didn’t stay married very long. That would have been back in the late 80s/early 90s.

Once in my brazen, more vulgar college days :p, a group of my husband’s fraternity brothers were sitting around talking about this kind of thing while I was there (classy, I know.) I have never been interested in it, but I had the following thought and decided to pose it to them:

“What if a girl wanted to do some stuff around there to you?”

“Oh no, yuck, that’s gross.”

🤷

Of course, I’m not talking about a group of the population that’s exceptionally concerned about upholding the dignity of women, but it still seems to me a curious double standard, and not very logical.

Well, I had to answer my own question. Thanks everyone. Not. :rolleyes:

Weird that I never heard of him before now. Considering that we probably live about 20 minutes from each other, and he went to high school about a mile from where I’m typing this.

Small world. But on the other hand, I’m not from around here, as they say around here.
