A dear friend of mine who I used 2 fellowship with is struggling with her faith. She is mostly upset that despite all her efforts she still has things to be corrected and many human weakness and imperfections. We talked 4 2 hrs about following Christ. Her mind seems 2 always wonder about sin & the world outside the church. She has this attitude like y do I have 2 do x,y,&z if people outside the church who have no care in the world are allowed to freely do x,y,z. The most recent mass (i think) convicted her - she straight-out left. 2 most people she is a very good person, obviously 2 Christ she has whatever her failings are. Her question is y does christianity get even harder the more & more you draw closer to christ? I have known her 4 yrs. She got into rid her “fleshly” sins - fornication, drinking, etc. I guess it is not so easy to shake off your tendency to judge, gossip, lie to cover yourself, etc.

I believe after a while the Holy Spirit opens up a person’s sight to see themselves better … that is, many more of the faults and failings that they were blind to before. And so it may look as tho they are going down hill instead of making progress. To see sin is a good sign of growing in knowledge of oneself and even of the world. For how can we correct our wrongs we do if we don’t first know that they are wrongs.

It is sometimes very frustrating when the Holy Spirit allows us to have some consolations and then the next thing ya know … He lowers the boom on us by smashing our pride and letting us see just how much more we didn’t see.

I guess that is way the spiritual life is a never ending process of growth and if one gets complacent, then that is something to be worried about.
