Heya I’m new but I thought I’d share my story cause sexual sin doesn’t seem to be uncommon on these forums. I’m JP (hi JP) and I’ve been addicted to masturbation and porn for the past 5 or so years. Luckily my prayer life started before shortly before then, but nonetheless I have fallen (well, fallen further) and it’s only in the last year that I’ve had true resolve to kick my addiction. This is largely due to a promise I made to God, a wonderful theology teacher, and a girl who I have fallen stupidly in love with but will (probably) never be with. The past year has been a large step towards kicking it and I’m nearing that 21 day point where habits get kicked. (I’ve also heard 30 days, but 21 is what I’m hoping on). This Lent my intention is to give up electronic tech. for a bit of a killing blow, but who knows. So, to increase my chance of no return after Lent, I’d like to ask my fellow faithful for a few prayers. The girl I love, my parents, and my former teacher all pray for me, but a few more prayers, even if it was just today and you all forgot tomorrow, should help. It would truly be appreciated, as I wish to pursue a fuller life in Christ. This sexual sin stuff doesn’t really help. Thank you and God Bless

All sorts of people have been successful doing just what you are doing with the grace of God including St. Augustine who tried it all out. Read a lot of good spiritual books, not to mention the New Testament. Just KEEP READING as much as you can filling you mind and imagination with great thoughts. AVOID the bad stuff at all costs, no matter what.
Think often about Jesus suffering for you on the Cross and the dear price He paid. Use the imagination in depicting that scene often and how much you love Him doing that for you. Then ask Him for mercy. Tell the Holy Spirit to lead you often. He will protect you if you ask. Pray every hour at least some prayer from you heart. Keep tuned in and your thoughts upward. It really isn’t hard, just sounds that way. After a bit it will become automatic. The very best and my prayers too.

“…love everyone, especially the brethern.” Paul, murderer and convert.
