Struggling over men...Oy!

Hey all ,

I’m really struggling with keeping my mind pure today. Yesterday I ran into a friend of mine in my graduate program who I haven’t seen in a few months. He’s super smart (BA and MS in physics, working on PhD in Biophysics) and also a very devoted Greek Orthodox Christian, and !#$%&* good looking! Maybe its just me but a man who can do calculus and is familiar with the writings of Origen is really hot in my book

Anywho, I’m trying not to get myself all up in a tizzy over him but its really hard considering that around here the pickings are slim in terms of potential husbands.

Could use some prayers here guys…thanks!

Yeah, ditto, only the opposite attraction here. My object of affection is a good Christian girl, a great writer, utterly beautiful, and perhaps even interested in me. In slower moments, the mind drifts, you know…

So, instead of letting those thoughts dominate me, I’m fixing my bike, cleaning my room, washing the Jeep, reading some great fiction, making a chicken alfredo, stringing a necklace, pre-packing my backpack–even though I’m not camping this weekend, counting my books, organizing my CDs, playing guitar, playing guitar, playing guitar, doing pushups, doing situps, doing arm curls, folding laundry, catching up on correspondence, and watching Rocky IV.

That ought to do it…

Like the choice to control natural desires, I have no choice but to have a sense of humor about it. Getting bitter never helps–in fact, it leads to larger problems.

Still, I have a very serious question–I’m only able to control this because of a lifetime of interest and dedication to the faith. I’ve strayed at times, but I’ve always come back. People on this forum are the only ones who have a similar background, but even then it’s just a few of us. So, is the vast bulk of humanity doomed because they haven’t been blessed with the same tools? Seriously–without the sacraments, I couldn’t do it.

And if they’re not doomed, it seems horribly unfair. We know the truth, making us more culpable, but the “pagans” and lukewarm of the world still get to have all the “fun,” and potentially be saved.

Never mind. I’m not going to think about that.

Watch out for those impure thoughts! I talked to my priest about them and he said that sometimes you cant help it if they pop in your head, but he said not to dwell on them. Just think about baseball or Margaret Thatcher naked on a cold day.
