How do you figure out what God wants you to do with basically your life? Do you get a “feeling” that, yes, this is what I’m supposed to be doing? I feel like I’m supposed to be using my “gifts”, which I’m not, and that is wasting them. I guess I’m expecting doors to open for me, when I just need to plod through and do a trial and error type thing to figure out what I should be doing. I know to pray, but I just don’t get any clear answers…I’m looking more in terms of how I should be filling my free time, which I have a lot of… I’m not interested in joining groups or anything but prefer to do things on my own…

You won’t get too far on your own. You might get a spiritual director… to… err- spiritually direct?😛

Ask yourself how your gifts might best be put to use.🤷

Let me ask you this:

apart from your gifts, what do you want to do? Are there any desires you have, anything that you feel interested in or that you would or think you might enjoy doing? The thing(s) you want to do might involve your gifts, but I am asking what you want to do even if they don’t happen to be involved. That is a good place to start (emphasis on start). So, anything?

I know how you feel about not knowing what to do with your time. It is very important to have good Catholic friends and groups to spend time with. I’m not exagerating; this is very important to spiritual growth and health. A spiritual director is also SO good to have. We aren’t supposed to make this journey by ourselves. The saints had good Catholic friends, family, spiritual directors, etc. that were essential to their growth in holiness and who usually ended up being saints themselves. Find a GOOD solid Catholic group of friends your age to spend time with (“wherever two or three are gathered in my name…”) and possibly a spiritual director. I’m speaking from experience that this is so valuable. I have one close friend who is a solid Catholic and that friendship helps me so much. I also have a great Catholic youth group that meets every two Sundays and a spiritual director that I see every other week or so. These things are so helpful to me. God bless 🙂

That’s fantastic advice, Sarah.

Unfortunately, finding solid Catholic friends has been darn near impossible in my life. It’s not such an easy thing to do! But God will give us all what we need, if you ask Him. So I would recommend to the OP that you pray often for God to send you some such friends, but that if it’s not His will to that He send you what in fact you do need.

Another good thing to do is to see if there are any churches in your town that have Eucharistic Adoration and spend time there. There’s no better companion than Jesus 🙂
