Study: Parent notification law cuts abortions

Decline in teen operations in Texas tied to notification, consent rules

Abortion rates declined significantly among Texas girls — though some got riskier abortions later in pregnancy — after the state enacted a parental notification law, researchers say.

The findings could have a strong influence on the abortion debate. Texas is the biggest of 35 states that require minors to notify their parents or get their consent before obtaining an abortion, although a judge can usually grant a waiver.

Researchers at Baruch College at City University of New York studied the records of teen abortions and births for the two years before the Texas law took effect on Jan. 1, 2000, and for three years afterward.

Well then, can we expect to see Democratic politicians supporting such legislation since they assert that they wish for abortion to be “rare”?

Then I woke up.

For me, parental notification transends the entire abortion debate. You simply do not perform medical proceedrues on children without parental consent. I had to sign all kinds of papers for my child to get her ears pierced, I had to sign papers at the emergency room to get a carrot removed from her nose (long story). Why on earth would a DR be able to do ANYTHING to my child without consent?

I thought parental notification had no effect on the rates. That is what the MSM…:ehh:…:hmmm:…never mind:whistle::banghead:

I totally agree with you, which is why I find voting against such laws reprehensible. I had to travel to the school just to give my child a benadryl because she broke out in an unexpected rash and we didn’t have special medical paperwork filled out. They cannot give my child a tylenol without my consent, but they can do a surgical procedure which could damage my child and kill my grandchild and I’m not allowed to even know about it? It’s complete nonsense. I was just wondering if the Dems who usually vote against these parental notification laws would change their minds after reading positive research since they “claim” that they care so much about people and they want abortion to be “rare”. :whacky:

It is a fundamental right of girls to be able to have an abortion on their own without the nosey consent of their parents!

But I swear, if they *ever *try to go on a field trip without their parents knowing…

How about this…

When i was 16 years old (mid 90’s)…I tried to get a library card from Harris County Public Library ( its the major county making up Houston,TX). I could not get one with out my parents signature BUT I could sleep around get pregnant and have an abortion all with out my dad knowing…Nice to know that the state cared more about me returning my library book then a child. So for me to see this report makes me " Thank You Jesus"!!! Finally some sense come out of the TX Legislation!
