Summary
This comprehensive analysis of minor abortion data from nearly all 50 states between 1985 and 1999 demonstrates that state-level parental involvement laws are effective in reducing the incidence of abortion among minors. Overall, the findings indicate that when a state enacts a parental involvement law, the abortion rate falls by an average of approximately 13.6 percent.
This study is the first of its kind to compare different types of parental involvement laws. The findings indicate that more protective parental involvement laws result in even larger abortion declines. Laws that require parental consent instead of parental notification reduce the minor abortion rate by about 19 percent. Furthermore, laws that mandate the involvement of two parents, instead of just one parent, reduce the in-state minor abortion rate by approximately 31 percent.

How will FOCA (if passed) affect this do you think?

Interesting to see that laws actually DO affect the rate of abortion contrary to what many claim.

The overturning of parental notification laws will obviously increase abortions as will the overturning of all the other restrictions that have been put on abortion since 1973- informed consent, waiting periods, bans on taking minors across state lines for abortions and of course the ban on partial-birth abortions. These restrictions have helped lower the number abortions from a high of 1.5 million to the current level of 1.2 million. Obama and a compliant Democrat Congress would overturn all these with the stroke of the pen.

But let’s not kid ourselves that blocking FOCA will make all things well. All blocking FOCA does is keep the status quo intact-1.2 million abortions a year . In additon with no approval whatsoever Obama is going to release funds for overseas abortion providers in his first week in office. By the end of February children overseas will start dying as a direct result of the election of Barack Obama.

it is very naïve on the part of “pro-life” Obama supporters that somehow he is going to institute policies that will lower the number of abortions while ignoring the fact that he will assure that abortions overseas will increase regardless of what he does in the United States.

First off-must indicate am a cradle Catholic who wishes all
abortion were illegal. And we must do everything possible to
limit them-parental notification etc.
But what is missing is some statistics and common sense
which is hard to argue with. The abortion rate-has been dropping
for many years and this is even with the U.S. population in-
creasing. Many persons claim the restrictions that government
has imposed is the main reason. I think the facts argue differently. Definitely the restrictions have helped. But here
are some facts below.

In 1990-United States Population was 248 million persons. By
2005 it was 296 million. And abortions had decreased in this
time period from about 1.55 million in 1990 to 1.25 million in
the year 2005. But below is the evidence which is hard
contradict.

We had increase in population-of which half were women of
48 million persons. And we had less abortions of 300,000 per
year. That would mean should have had manymore live births. In facts in should have been significant.

Births in 1990-4.18 million births
Births in 2005-4.14 million births

So we actually had 4,000 less births even with a 18% increase
in population. And 300,000 less abortions-thank God for that.

For anyone with a math background-there should have been
about 375,000 increase in births from 1990-2005 instead of
the 4000 decrease!!! So where did all the babies go?

If do a little more research and thought. There are only 2 main
reasons why this could happen. a. If non-married couples were
waiting to have relations or b. Which seems more apparent-
couples were using measures-like birth control to stop becoming
pregnant in the first place.

I am not necessarily for birth control-as that is also against
Catholic Church teaching. But believe we have not made much
progress in the pro-life wars as we would like. It appears yes
we made have helped some young women have children. But
since the births are not up-when they should be with all the
chidren being saved. Where did they go? Hopefully maybe
people are waiting longer to have relations before married-but
the evidence does not support this.

It is obvious the birth control mentality has really taken effect
in America. Which you will notice has grave consequences for
our society.

Anyways-welcome any comments. But the math doesnt lie.
Just go to Vital Statistics for the data.

What we need to do-is to cajole and convince people with the
truth. That is very hard with our secular media limiting the
exposure to what is actually the facts of abortion-it is killing
an innocent human life.

Yet the newest “pro-choice” tactic is to implore us to “work together for common ground” and stop seeking abortion restrictions that “don’t reduce the abortion rate anyway.” So which is it? Remember that the next time you hear the “common ground” ploy. Abortion restrictions do reduce the number of abortions.
