Substance of the Blood (consecrated wine and water) after mixture with water

This may be a question for my priest but it’s too late in the night to call him and I want an answer now 😛 … i know patience is a virtue 😦

I served during the Divine Liturgy and last week when the Priest had consecrated the wine he got a bit of the Blood of our Lord on his hand (this is because our Priest puts the body into the blood and eats it at one time, but it got really soggy this time), he quickly prompted to me that he needed to wash his hands (as it had the blood of our Lord on it) so i gave him the water and towel that is used prior to the consecration.

After the mass i asked him if i should drink the water that he had washed his hands with because i thought it had now become the blood of our Lord but he said that it had lost all substance because it had become mixed with water but we should still respect it and pour it out in a grass or vegetation patch.

My question is.

Why did the water that the priest use didn’t also become the blood of our Lord? The blood of our Lord. His blood is already in the appearance of wine and water and the priest just washed it with more water.

For example, if i were to bleed a cup full of blood and simply mix it with water my blood would still remain in the water would it not? just slightly diluted.

The only matter which can be the Blood of Christ is wine (setting aside all discussions of both species containing both Body and Blood). Once the accidents of wine are gone, so is the Blood of Christ. Once the “wine” is diluted with enough water to no longer be recognized as “wine”, it ceases to have the substance of the Blood of Christ.

The greeks and jews drank wine with water. The greek and Israel wine is too strong, one of the strongest in the world.

So the custom of putting a little water.

That does not change the character of the wine. Actually the wine has got O2H, water.

You cannot divide the water and the wine for the wine always has got water. No, I do not know what your problem is since here.
 
Phemie is correct. When the Precious Blood under the appearance of wine no longer can be recognized as wine it is no longer Precious Blood.

To use your example, yes, if you had a cup of blood and mixed in 1 drop of water it would still be recognizable as blood. But if you had a cup of water and mixed in 1 drop of blood you would not be able to recognize the blood in the water. Same thing happened here.

Wine always has lots and lots of water (H[sub]2[/sub]O - O[sub]2[/sub]H is an impossible compound, but “O[sub]2[/sub]H[sub]2[/sub]” [generally H[sub]2[/sub]O[sub]2[/sub]] can exist - it’s dihydrogen dioxide/hydrogen peroxide) - even at its strongest, wine is still 80% water. Most is 88-92% water. I am not certain, but it may be that when it is no longer recognizable as wine, it is no longer the blood. (My gut reaction would have been, that if one drop of it fell in to the ocean, the ocean would become the Blood, as Christ is infinite, but I see that is practically unworkable.)

When I studied it was OH2. Then it became H2O. Then again OH2. Then, when my children studied, H2O. No wonder, I got mixed up with O2H. Thanks for noting…

You logic is unbeatable…

I know a priest who over diluted 2 drops of wine (exageration). It would be hard to agrue that that is not the blood of christ. But i guess the issue is pretty complicated for instance when cleaning the chalice water is used and it is also wiped with the purificator. If im using a ‘wide’ logic i may say when the water was poured into the chalice the water became the blood of christ and the purificator wiped the blood of christ. So when the purificator was washed, the blood of christ was desecrated. Now that doesnt sound right, this issue is complicated.

Hmmm. Unconsecrated wine can also be used to purify the vessels, though usually water is considered to be the final cessation of the sacrament. Note that the concentration of the original consecrated Wine can be in the low parts per billion range even after thoroughly cleaning. How many times, for example, do you have to wash out even a small amount of detergent? Just saying.
