The concept of the “suffering servant” in Isaiah 53 applying to the Christian messiah is the Christian view; the traditional Jewish view has always been that it applies to the Jewish people.

But that is for another thread.
Can you prove this? My bishop, who was born a Jew, told me that the view of the Suffering Servant as the Jewish people suffering for sin is a recent view, maybe only 200 years old.

Might I suggest that you either use the CAF search function or use google with a reference to here and ‘Suffering Servant’?

It’s been thrashed out on a number of occasions here in my time and, I’m sure, many times before I arrived. Neither side is going to be able to ‘prove’ to the other that their interpretation is correct and it’ll be just ‘going through the motions’ yet again.
