Suggest Edith Stein Major Works?

Greetings Brethren,

I am looking to read some of Edith Stein’s writings, but am not sure of where to begin.

I am in formation to become a Secular Carmelite right now, and we had a fraternity meeting this past weekend. One of the folks there suggested starting with her autobiography (her first book), and then going down the list of her writings, so I could see her developments.

But I just checked her writings out on Wikipedia, and there’s like thirteen books attributed to her name. That’s a bit much for me right now, as I’m studying for the CPA exam, and I cant read as much Theology as I’d like.

Maybe it would help if I could identify her major works? And, better yet, works that might focus on **why **I am interested in her. It’s not just because she was a Carmlite, or the fact that we share a birthday , but I studied a lot of Edmund Husserl in undergrad, and I hear she was a one of his students. I’m looking to identify Husserl’s influence in her writings.

If anyone can make any recommendations, then I’d greatly appreciate it.

Finite and Eternal Being is THE major philosophical work, but it is also the longest, I believe. There are substantial engagements there with Husserl, Heidegger, Descartes, and of course Aquinas.

She stages an imagined conversation between Husserl and Aquinas in an short essay that can be found in the Knowledge and Faith collection.

Potency and Act is shorter, but it is essentially an early draft of what became Finite and Eternal Being.

If you are becoming Carmelite you might enjoy her Science of the Cross, which is an important work but I have not read that one.
