I am going to be in a Baptist bible study about King David. (Samuel and Chronicles)

I would like to know if anyone in this forum could suggest a good Catholic study or resource focused on this so that I could be prepared for to present any Catholic insights.

(I’ve taken two Bible studies Daniel and John at a Baptist Church before and they ultimately lead to me to re-version back to the Catholic Church. But I was somewhat unprepared back then to contribute to others’ questions. The leader however was quick to “correct” one of her baptist friends when she noted that Jesus seemed to be commissioning the apostles for forgiving sins. She simply said Jesus commissioned them to teach it only. She gave no real proof. No questions asked.

Another was corrected (without explanation) when she suggested the text seemed to suggest double-predestination. They seemed to want to distance themselves also from “Mainline” (protestant) churches, as that title seemed to mean something.

There were a few other situations where I wished I had been better prepared with different points of views.

Anyone have some resources.

Thanks

why do you go to non-Catholic Bible studies in the first place? As with John and Revelation, the interpretation of kingship and the national of Israel is foundational to the reasons they reject Catholic teaching, so it is very unlikely this study will be helpful to you.

Little Rock Bible Studies easy to lead for small groups in the parish as long as there is someone you can call on to answer questions who know what they are talking about.
just to name a few off the top of my head

Can’t help, but it sounds like a good study subject.

I guess I’m paying attention to all those skeptics who talk about how scripture is all fiction. You won’t hear such talk at a Baptist bible study, I’m sure, but you can believe there’s a nut out there who says David never existed – he’s such an idyllic figure, he’s the king the people wished they had had.

You might get some extra kick from trying to match up what Psalms correspond to events in David’s life – if you have time.

It would probably be better to do Catholic bible study. In addition to the lists given I would recommend www.salvationhistory.com , it is an online bible study written by Scott Hahn. I am studying there at the moment. I have also studied Genesis and John at www.catholicexchange.com and can recommend that site also. Jimmy Akin doesn’t recommend the Little Rock Bible Study course.

Scott Hahn has a good tape series on this:

The Rise and Fall of the Old Testament Church
In this presentation, Dr. Hahn works through Joshua, 1 and 2 Kings and the Prophets through Daniel, showing how the history of Israel paves the way for the New Covenant in Christ. He teaches you how to read the Bible by asking questions of the text.

Thanks for the suggestion.

FYI.
I am going because my wife is Baptist and I wish to try to bridge the gap between us that sometimes feels like a chasm.

Thanks again
