I had filed a small charge against someone for destroying my property out of wantonness. Someone tried to tell me that wasn’t christian. What does the church have to say about suing someone? I am going to drop the charge too.

It is not for someone else to tell you what is Christian and what is not. The courts are where we seek legal protection and restitution from others. Often insurance claims cannot be filed until some action of this nature or a police report takes place. There is nothing unchristian about that.

If it is a just suit then it is not un-Catholic.

The Church does not call us to be doormats; you have every right to seek compensation for damaged property. Please think it over before you drop the lawsuit.

This. It is one thing to be charitable, but quite another to be someone’s doormat. Charitable doesn’t equal doormat in my opinion.

I’m not at all against filing suit if that’s the way to address your loss.

However, there are organizations that bring aggrieved parties together through “restorative justice.” The idea is that the victim has a chance to face the perpetrator and at least try to get some emotional closure out of the situation. And a whole lot of other stuff.

These groups tend to be Christian-based. Just a thought.

Here’s one: ccp.org/missionvision.html

How is allowing this person to have no repercussions from this Christian?

They destroyed property, what will they learn from this by not facing consequences?
Will they be more likely to do it again?
What path will avoiding consequences set them on?

We discipline our children out of love for them. Is that un-Christian? The bible speaks often on God disciplining His children to instruct them in His ways, to understand that they’ve done wrong.

Sometimes when we tolerate evil as opposed to facing it, the evil increases.

This person made choices, there are consequences to one’s choices. Certainly, forgive them, bear no ill will towards them, but they certainly need to understand that actions have consequences. Better to come to grips with that over a small matter vice a much greater one.

Would he do it again? Absolutely. All he can see now is that he’s a victim and the world’s out to get him. I call that “whining” myself. He cares nothing about no one. No one in the world has ever had it worse than him.
I was talking to a friend in a restaurant we all go to. He gets up and goes to my friend and demands some of her food. She tried to explain we were talking while he was standing there pulling on her nose. He has serious problems somewhere.

I explained to the judge his wanton behavior that lead to the accident. But that’s not the issue that it was an accident. It was an accident waiting to happen. His actions lead to this. I have told him many times to stay away from me and he laughs boisterously. Court seems to be all he will understand.

You’re describing someone who is either 3 years old or has some dangerously serious psychological problems. Maybe part of the lawsuit should be mandatory mental health counseling.

He’s actually in his seventies. I’ve heard from people who knew him when he was younger he was the same as he is now. He hits the female employees on the rear end. Some of them under 18. I have told him and told him not to do that. They will not throw anyone out. Everywhere else he’s is asked to leave. He’s increasing their liabilities. It’s not age. He’s in his right mind. He doesn’t care about anyone or have any sense. Older people I know don’t act like that. And they’re older than him.
I've also heard he's forged his name on titles when he was younger and sold cars he was supposed to pay on.
