In my prayer book, in the LOTH, on the wall calendar from my local church, today is identified as the Baptism of the Lord Jesus. All well and good.

However, I went to Mass this morning and they announced and celebrated the Feast of the Holy Family, The homily discussed 12 y.o. Jesus hanging back in the Temple in Jerusalem, and His parent’s not being able to find Him, His agreeing to be obedient from now on, and Mary holding this in her heart.

I was expecting the Heavens to open, a Dove to descend…, “This is My Son in whom I am well pleased…” etc.

Unless I’m in a real-life re-make of Groundhog Day, something doesn’t add up.

To be fair, I went to a Tridentine Mass for the first time, so the schedules might be different. Do the two masses use different calendars? Where can I find the two lists?

Go to a another Tridentine Mass on Wednesday January 13 and you will have the Baptism of the Lord. The newer Novus Ordo calendar moved this feast to today (Sunday).

In the EF (or TLM) today, the 1st Sunday after Epiphany, is the Feast of the Holy Family. Next Sunday will be the 2nd Sunday after Epiphany. In the OF it will be the 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time. I found a calendar for the OF here.
If I find a good link to the EF calendar, I will post it. The ones I found either use a pre 62 calendar or are on sites I can not recommend. For the rest of this month, the EF will have the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays after Epiphany, and Septuagesima Sunday. Then comes Sexagesima and Quinquagesima Sunday. The Wednesday after Quinquagesima Sunday is Ash Wednesday. The 5th Sunday of Lent will be Passion Sunday, follwed by Palm Sunday.
In the Easter season, what the OF calls, for example, the 3rd Sunday of Easter, is the 2nd Sunday after Easter in the EF. When the OF resumes Sundays in Ordinary Time, the EF will have Sundays after Pentecost. In the EF, the Feast of Christ the King is always the last Sunday of October.

Thank you very much! As I wrote, today’s was my first such Mass. [At least since I was VERY young.] I didn’t know what to expect. The Mass was very beautiful. I can’t go on Wednesday because I believe this Mass is only offered on Sundays… I think.

Wow! Thank you so much for the full information. It could be very confusing, but the reference you gave me will really be a help.

I know that either Mass satisfies my obligation. I guess I’ll have to be a regular at one or the other so as not to miss anything.
