I was wondering what exactly what is meant by “servile work” on the Sabbath…is it okay to do things like clean out your room and get organized? Is it even a sin at all to do little things like this?
I heard that some Jews don’t even cook on the Sabbath!

No one should be required to do any un-necessary work on Sundays or Holy Days. I might choose to go out and hoe the garden on Sunday afternoon, simply because I enjoy being in the garden.

if your job is archivist or file clerk or librarian and you spend your work week organizing and filing, that would be servile work for Sunday. If you spend your week in something active, physically or psychically draining, and that task would be relaxing for you, it would not be work for your purposes. don’t neglect of course the primary reason for the Sabbath - real rest, time with family, centered around worship and time for God. Orthodox Jewish couples consider the Sabbath a perfect time for sex.
