I am Syro Malabar catholic, one of the 22 Eastern Rites in full communion with Rome.
I understand that in the Latin rite by attending a Saturday evening mass the Sunday obligation can be fulfilled. Is the same applicable for Syro Malabar catholics?

I am from Kerala, in South India which is the centre of Syro Malabar Catholic Church. I have never heard in my life any priest saying that Saturday evening mass fulfills Sunday obligation.
But I do understand that according to Canon 1248 Saturday mass in any rite fulfills Sunday obligation.

Any one knows the answer?

Since you are not a Latin Catholic you would need to look to Canon 881 of the Code of Canons of Eastern Churches which reads:
Canon 881
1.The Christian faithful are bound by the obligation to participate on Sundays and feast days in the Divine Liturgy, or according to the prescripts of their own Church ‘sui iuris,’ in the celebration of the divine praises.
2. In order for the Christian faithful to fulfill this obligation more easily, the available time runs from the evening of the vigil until the end of the Sunday or feast day.
So it looks like it is possible for the Eastern Catholic Churches to offer the Divine Liturgy as a Saturday vigil. That being said one must follow the precepts of their own Church. As I understand it that means that if your Church does not normally offer Saturday vigil, then you should not just attend the liturgy in say a Latin Church for convenience.

One important difference between the Latin and Eastern canons is that the eastern canons do not include participation “anywhere in a Catholic rite” in the canons on the Sunday obligation. Reading canon 883 in the eastern canons and it appears that Eastern Catholics are expected to participate in liturgy associated with their own Church and only use the precepts of another Church when outside of the territorial boundaries or jurisdiction of their own Church.

The simplest thing to do is to talk to your own Pastor.

Offering Mass (I use that as an easy and intelligible generic for Divine Liturgy, Qourbono, Raza, Badarak, take your pick depending on the particular Church) in the evening is really nothing but a post-conciliar latinization. Many Eastern & Oriental Churches do it, but that doesn’t mean it’s traditional. It’s certainly anything but traditional.

In any case, notice that CCEO Canon 881 says “… or according to the prescripts of their own Church …] in the celebration of the divine praises.” That essentially means Vespers, and it depends on Particular Law.
