How is it that according to the older calendar this is the 5th Sunday after Easter and according to the new it is the 6th? What am I missing?
The old calendar is zero based (Eater is the zeroeth, Dominica in Albis the first), the new is 1 based (Easter is the first). The reason is (I think) that the name of the Sunday is in accordance of the week of the Psalter; In the old Calendar there psalter cycle was weekly. How is it that according to the older calendar this is the 5th Sunday after Easter and according to the new it is the 6th? What am I missing?
Correct. And in the old calendar used for the EF Mass. next Sunday is the Sunday after Ascension or it may be called Sunday within the Octave of the Ascension. The old kalendar numbered Sundays AFTER Easter. The current one numbers Sundays OF Easter.
it is both, actually, the 5th Sunday After Easter is the 6th Sunday OF Easter (Easter itself being the first Sunday OF Easter). How is it that according to the older calendar this is the 5th Sunday after Easter and according to the new it is the 6th? What am I missing?
Minor point: In the EF, which uses the 1962 kalendar, there no longer was any octave for the feast of the Ascension (that having been dropped in 1955). Hence, Sunday within the Octave of the Ascension was no longer correct, only Sunday after the Ascension.Correct. And in the old calendar used for the EF Mass. next Sunday is the Sunday after Ascension or it may be called Sunday within the Octave of the Ascension.
