For one reason or the other, I used to miss several meals while in school, but always made sure I had not just something to eat on a Sunday, but good food in my definition. I still feel that it offends God if we don’t eat well on Sunday. I can’t explain where I got this from, but probably from one of our neighbors as we grew up. He was Catholic too and the head Christian today of the sub parish where he prays. His children told us they had this rule, Sunday always meant good food; but if one did not go to church (since it was optional), you don’t appear near the dining table and they all knew it. And it worked.
We are in lent, and among other things we are supposed to fast; but I still feel bad if I don’t eat well on a Sunday. What do you have to say and how much do you limit on a Sunday?

There are no rules, it’s a matter of personal piety.

We do eat a special breakfast/brunch after Mass, and I may make something fussier for dinner, because I can. I try to set Sundays apart from just being another day of the week and food is one way to do that. I don’t change that during Lent. Some people choose to continue abstaining from a particular food they have given up for Lent on Sundays, some people choose not to. Either is fine.

(But if we do an outing to the zoo or park, I don’t feel like I’ve done something wrong if I just heat up a frozen pizza when we get back.)

ETA: Sorry, I just saw this was posted in the Eastern Catholic forum (I clicked on it initially in the list of new threads so didn’t see the location at first.) I just want to clarify that I am coming from a Latin perspective, since I know the fasting traditions are different in the Eastern rites. 🙂

Sundays are not included in Lent. Some still like to, on a Sunday, give something up if it is their preference to do so.

In the Eastern Catholic (at least Byzantine) tradition, Sundays are included in Lent, and traditionally, we abstain from meat, eggs, and dairy throughout Lent, including Sundays.
