Hi,

I have been thinking of getting another tattoo (I have several tattoos so it won’t be my first one) related to a tv-show which I absolutely love watching and have watched every episode from season one.

I was thinking of getting the anti-possession tattoo on my forearm from the show Supernatural.

As Catholics/Christians would you do it? Not the fact of getting a tattoo but the anti-possession symbol since it includes a pentagram?

I have been reading a lot online on pentagrams and material always says that it is a pagan symbol for protection.

Thanks 🙂

The fact is there is no-anti possesion tattoo.
Maybe try confession as anti-sin strategy.
Also, tattoing pentagram is useless, I would say it is contraproductive.I think you should try other methods as catholic.
I suggest you Mass, Holy Communion and confession. 😉

I’d probably suggest you avoid getting that particular symbol. It’s a symbol which has connotations of Occultism e.t.c

It will also be a symbol that is very dated in a few years time, when the show isn’t as popular as it is today, as well.

The St Benedict Cross happens to be an actual anti possession symbol (of sorts) too. I’m not sure about Tattoos of it but I wear a blessed medal and rarely take it off.

You can get it if you want, but be prepared to explain to people for the next several decades, including non-Catholic people, why you have a pentagram on your arm, because most people do associate it with the demonic, whether or not that is a fair characterization.

I don’t mind explaining to people at my work why I have a Jerusalem cross with IHS tattooed on my forearm, but I would feel like a dope explaining to people why I had a pentagram. And worse yet if it was from a pop culture TV show. Tattoos to me are for more important things, because they are on you for life.

@SPONP4US St. Benedict’s cross is symbol of our choice of Christ and rejection of Satan and his work.
But it is not something anyone should wear it as amulet.
I think we should “tattoo” our hearts at first. But I don’t judge anyone, I also have a tattoo on my hand, occult meaning made in past and definitely wouldn’t recommend anyone to tattoo anything that even reminds on occult. Don’t want to go in details but yes it brought me many spiritual problems.

Dear All,

Thank you very much for your insights.

Great food for thought!

Thanks Again!

Nowhere in the Catholic faith is wearing a HOLY symbol on a Medal an Amuletic practice, the suggestion is quite preposterous.

Please look up what a Miraculous medal is for a start. The St Benedict medal has been worn as a devotional medal of faith, against evil influences for many centuries, your reply sounds very ignorant frankly, nor has it anything to do with my posts.

I didn’t say it was faith in the symbol itself as an amulet, and if you know anything about At Benedict’s life you would know just why that cross is a sacramental against evil influences.

Please inform yourself thoroughly.

You’re welcome.

@SPONP4US I didn’t say that it is, I just said it as coclusion of my thoughts because I know people who wear it like that. Nothing personal.
I am sorry if sounded rude or ignorant, didn’t have that intention.
I know what miraculous medal is and wear it myself.
But is power just in a simbol and piece of metal itself or is it in our faith? I don’t put my confidence in medal, I put my confidence in Mary’s hand and I wear medal as sign of belongig to Her and trusting Her intercession, and that is what I wanted to say.

You will likely not “love” this TV show in 10 years. Tattoos last.

I really liked that show but realized that it can effect how we percieve the spiritual world. Having angels and actual demons characterized by humans in a show will effect how we think of them in real life. I made a rule for myself that I will not watch a show that portrays the devil in any way. I think tatoos are dumb anyway but definitely would stay away from the one that you are contemplating.

I got my first and only tattoo at the age of 51. It’s my husband’s first name and the year of our wedding tattooed on my ring finger. He got a matching one with my name. I work in food service and he’s an electrician and we were both tired of not being able to wear our rings while we’re at work.

That said, even the artist that did ours said he hates doing names because people are so fickle (he only agreed to do ours because we were celebrating our 30th anniversary and considered us a “good bet”) and the only thing he hates more is when people come in and ask him to do cover-ups of tattoos that seemed like a great idea at the time people originally got them.

Point taken.

OTOH, my daughter has had a fascination with the show (and declares it of very varying quality, over its 15 year life span), even so.

No chance she would get a tattoo for any reason. But her fannish appreciation for the show makes for opportunities for me to find gifts for her over the years. As in other hobby areas.

Depends on what the tattoo would be communicating. Would the point be “I like this show, this is a reference to the show” or “I genuinely believe this symbol has some kind of spiritual power.” If the former, eh, fine. If the latter, hard no.

Although I agree with the Little Lady that your interest in Supernatural will probably not be lifelong, and you may feel silly in thirty years with a reference to a tv show you don’t care about permanently inked on your body.

The anti-possession symbol is very popular as a tattoo among fans, but maybe think of something else, if you really want one from the show. The D.W. S.W initials, or the Men of Letters symbols are also popular options.

I have to agree with others here and avoid a pentagram. Only people who follow the show would understand what it means and others may be a little scandalized by a Christian with that specific symbol on their body. Some would ask and you’d be able to share an interesting story with them. For others, it might be a barrier for your sharing your Christian witness.

Personally, I am not a tattoo person. If I were though, I would probably go with one of the other suggestions if you felt so inclined. Some sound pretty cool.

“Supernatural” tv show is fiction and shows pentagram symbol in different light than it really is.
I would never ever recommend someone to put anything that is connected to occultism on them. You don’t want to invite demon in your life.
That show is interesting but is nothing but trap for many souls and gives disordered view on spiritual reality.

depending on how arthurian you want to get… the Pentacle was once used by the catholic church. but many modern catholics as well as pagans might find your tattoo confusing and you’d have to explain yourself. I’m fairly heavily tattooed myself. I dont think I need to tell you anything you dont already know.
