How can I povide biblical proof that mortal sins must be confessed to a priest (and venial sins do not have to be)? I’m familiar with the verse in John that talks about ‘deadly sins’ and ‘about these you should not pray’, and that James tell us to ‘confess our sins to others’, but that isn’t quite specific enough to support Catholic teaching for the discussion I’m in. Perhaps it’s how I’m explaining it. Can anyone help?
