This is something to think about! Since America is typically represented by an eagle, Saddam should have read up on his Muslim passages…The following verse is from the Quran, (the Islamic Bible)

Quran(9:11)-For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo,while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace. (Note the verse number!)

That’s an urban legend. Check it on snopes.com.

Old urban legend. You obviously didn’t check with an actual Qur’an before you posted.

Here’s what 9:11 actually says:

“But [even so], if they repent, establish regular prayers, and practise regular charity,–they are your brethren in Faith: [thus] do we explain the signs in detail, for those who understand.”

Not quite the same thing, is it?

'Course, nothing of the kind ever happens to us! I got stung by the Mel Gibson’s plastic surgery hoax. OUCH!:o
 
Just as a side note many countries like Germany have an Eagle as it’s symbol.

Don’t be embarassed… I once forwarded a rather nasty comentary about Pepsi not wanting to put the words “one nation… under God” on their pop can that was to have the Pledge of Allegiance on it. I sent that “boycott Pepsi” email to about 100 people and then found out it was a big hoax. Color me :0

Thanks for the understanding everyone. We’ve all done embarrasing things in our lives. It disappointed me to find out the truth…that would have been so awesome. Anyway, I bought the Koran yesterday…as long as I don’t believe all of it, and I’m just learning to make myself aware of other beliefs, surely that’s not a wrong thing for a Catholic to do, is it?

I, too, have read the entire al Qur’an through and through. I found it very interesting and at times enlightening. It kind of reads like the Old Testament (i.e. grim and violent at times) but also offers some similarity with our own Holy Scripture. Where I find them in common I recognize truth, where I find them in dispute I humbly disagree and embrace my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

PS: It’s important to read a very good translation. I recommend “The Meaning of The Holy Qur’an” by Abdullah Yusuf Ali. You can also purchase one of the few English “Exhaustive Concordance of the Meaning of the Qur’an” by Yahya Cason, Kamel El-Fadl and Fareed Walker. Note that Muslims don’t recognize non-Arabic Qur’aans as “al Qur’an” but as “Qur’aan” (i.e. Meanings of what they are the subject of). So make sure you know if you decide to engage with Muslims in dialog before hand, friend.
