Just saw a headline that 70% on Anglicans in south western Ontario voted in favour of same sex unions.

Looked for web articles, but found none yet.

Headline was on CityTV’s CP24 channel.

I am in the Diocese of Hamitlon too! Yay Bishop Tonnos and Aucilary Bishop Bergie!

I’ve noticed something; tell me if you’ve noticed this as well.

Background: I have more than 1 parish that I attend. A 7pm Sunday Mass incase I’m busy Sunday morning. I registered at a post-V2 parish close to my house, but I prefer the old shool designed churches. I now attend such a church in my town.

In each of these churches, I have noticed that with the mention of “…Anthony our Bishop…” by the Priest, he also mentions “…Anthony and Gerard our bishops…”

Is this to get people accustomed to knowing the name of Gerard, the likely replacement when Tonnes retires?

I know some priests and Church officials with whom I spoke about the succesion of Bishops. The trend seems to be that auxilary bishops do not take over the position. It is likely that another priest/monsignor will be chosen.

As a sidebar, the priest prays for both simply because they are both our bishops whom we should pray for.

Ok, good to know.

What about:

Bishop Matthew F. Ustrzycki
Auxiliary Bishop of Hamilton, V.G.

Who is he?

Bishop U is a titular bishop- he has retired as he is over 75. He is so nice- he personally offered to baptise me.

Understood. Thanks!

I’m in Steel City a lot - to referee football. Both at Mac and for the Steel City Ironmen. Plus the Referee supply store is in the SC. And I go to CTK once a year for SOTC.

An auxilliary bishop may or may not succeed a diocesan bishop. It is entirely up to the Holy Father. Often, auxilliaries move to a diocesan vacancy in another diocese after some experience assisting a diocesan.

However, a co-adjutor bishop is appointed specifically to succeed the diocesan he is assisting, and will do so immediately, without further action necessary, when the post becomes vacant through death or resignation (or technically removal, too). We have a co-adjutor Archbishop here in Vancouver, Archbishop Miller, who was appointed (from a Vatican curial post) to assist Archbishop Roussin. He will, in the normal course of events, succeed him.

Unless he is a co-adjutor, a bishop has no claim to, and cannot be assumed to be in line for, succession.

As for the prayers in the canon of the Mass, that’s a variable. In the US, the General Instructions for the Roman Missal do not appear to allow for more than one bishop (the diocesan) to be named, with others being merely referred to. (We pray for N., our Bishop, and his assistant bishop(s).) In Canada, it seems to be up to the diocesan. In our Archdiocese, Archbishop Roussin has directed that the prayer be offerred for “our Bishops Raymond and Michael.”

Now as for the Anglicans, same old, same old. Nothing to see here, folks. Might as well just move along. Disintegration and degeneration is a horrible thing to watch anyway.
