Even if that were true (which isn’t) I’d rather not infect my mother, who while not a senior citizen, has other health issues to begin with

THANK YOU. People are answering questions that I have not even asked.

I would note that some of us go to Divine Liturgy or other rite services from time to time just because we like the service or are interested in learning about the other Catholic churches. I have been to Byzantine, Syro-Malabar, and Maronite rite churches, all at non-emergency times. It is never a sin to attend one of the other Catholic churches on the list instead of your own. And a Catholic can meet his normal Sunday obligation by attending any Catholic church on the list. It does not have to be an emergency. (Of course, during this emergency the vast majority of us have been dispensed from our Sunday obligation so we don’t have to go find an open church if the Bishop has closed ours.)

I came into the church as an adult and attended Divine Liturgy in a Ukrainian Catholic parish. There was lots going on. There’s lots to look at on the walls with icons. When I tried to follow in the book I was lost within 5 min. Everything was in English though so I listened and looked at the icons.

The Liturgy is all sung. If it happens that most of the choir is missing, you might sit there and wonder why anyone would come there. The Liturgy is beautiful when sung well, and the hymnology is loaded with catechism. I learned so much going to church and vespers on Saturday. I really had an increase in faith and appreciation for all the things that are celebrated through the year.

It really is something that you grow in appreciation.

From vespers for March 25 the Annunciation of the Mother of God

Gabriel stood in your presence, O holy Virgin
and revealed the eternal plan to you.
He greeted you and announced:
Rejoice, O earth that had not been sown!
Rejoice, O burning bush that had not been consumed!
Rejoice, O unsearchable depth!
Rejoice, O bridge which leads to heaven; O high ladder which Jacob saw!
Rejoice, O vessel of divine manna!
Rejoice, O invocation of Adam!
The Lord is with you!

The next time you see the priest hold up a round host, remember this icon. How amazing is that? God bless.

can you go to the Mass of another rite without sin,
Where in the world did you get the idea that there is EVER sin in attending a liturgy of another Catholic Church?

No.

Never.

Ever.

It is always find to attend any Catholic liturgy.

Now, perhaps if you are RC, and in an area with plenty of RC Masses, but in which EC only have Vespers (which does for many EC meet the obligation), and you go to that instead of a Mass or Divine Liturgy–but at this point, we’re getting really obscure.

That said, if your church has cancelled Mass or liturgy, it would be horrific if large numbers of you suddenly dropped in on the tiny EC churches–it would crowd them, and create a danger . . .
