Now I would like to focus on the number 6.

I note 666, the world was created in 6 day, Christ was on the cross for 6 hours and the Church has 6 commandments.

The symbolism seems negative.

Any suggestions?
Firstly the Church has 10 commandments, not 6

but apart from that the number 6 was seen as an imperfect number in the old testament falling short of the perfect number 7 that is why it is often associated with negative imagery. the creation of the world was completed on the 7th Day when God rested.
I wouldn’t dwell to much on numerology in the bible while it can have meaning it doesn’t always have to.
God Bless

I disagree the Church has 6 commandments, God gave Moses 10.
  1. To hear Mass on Sundays and Holydays of Obligation.
    2. To fast and abstain on the days appointed.
    3. To confess at least once a year.
    4. To receive the Holy Eucharist during Easter time.
    5. To contribute to the support of our Pastors.
    6. Not to marry persons who are not Catholics, or who are related to us within three degrees of kindred, nor privately without witnesses, nor to solemnize marriage at forbidden times.

Apologies I am used to hearing them called the precepts of the church although I thought there were only five as we are not forbidden from marrying non-Catholics, we can do so with dispensation.
The precepts can be found in the catechism paragraphs 2041 - 2043

My “catholic cheat cheat” app on my phone lists 6 commandments of the church too, but 1 of the commandments are different:
1:to attend mass every sunday and holy day of obligation
2:to confess your sins at least once a year
3:to recieve holy communion during the easter season
4:to keep holy all holy days of obligation
5:to fast and obstain on the days appointed
6:to contribute to the support of the Church

TC,
Thanks!
My 1 is split into your 1 and 4, and my 6 is not in your list.

One million years ago when I was about 10 yrs old we learned Catechism by chanting out answers to help rote learning. We chanted about “Consanguinity and affinity” which made marriages sinful and we also learned the differences between unlawful and invalid (null and void). I think we knew as much then as I do now.

The Church of England had great rules about whom one could not marry.

This used to be the 6 commandments of the Church. I think it was revised after Vatican II, but I’m not sure just when.

I have been googling commandments of the Church, to see if Vat II changed them.

I read some claim there are 5, some 6 and some 7. At least we do not have 613 as Jews have.

But really only two commandments count - , love God and neighbo(u)r.

The number six is significant in its implications for man in Genesis. Six is, indeed, a number that is associated with “falling short”. God rested from his creative work on the 7th day. Seven is associated with perfection, completeness, and covenant.

We read the following in Genesis 1:27-31:
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.” And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, a sixth day.
Both man and the animals are created on the sixth day. Only man is created in the image and likeness of God. Likewise, man is created to be in “covenant” with God. Man is literally meant for the seventh day. If man is not in covenant with God, then man remains in the sixth day, and remains in the flesh which essentially leaves him at the level of the animals. A man in that case “falls short.” This is the consequence of sin and this is why sin in the Greek literally means to “fall short.” The association with the number six is, indeed, significant.

I hope this helps.

Apocalypse 13, 18 Here is wisdom. He who has understanding, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man; and its number is six hundred and sixty-six.

The number of the beast is the number of a man. This means that the beast’s number is calculated as is a man’s number. A man’s number consists of three digits; the first is the number of the letters in his name added together and the digits added together until arriving at a single digit. The other two numbers are his date of birth reduced to a single digit, and the day of the week of his birthday.

The beast is not a man. The beast is a symbol of a country imposing tyranny through war over the whole world, or nearly the whole world. Seven countries have done that throughout history since Daniel. Each of the seven heads represents one of these countries. An angel said to John that five had fallen, one is and the other had not yet come. The one that existed at the time was Rome. The one to come was Germany. This was the head that had the wound of the sword and was killed but rose again with its deadly wound healed.

Germany started World War 1 on August 1, 1914. On this date Germany became the beast. The digits of this date add up to 6 and it was a Saturday, the 6th day. The official name of Germany in German was Deutsches Reich. The letters of this name, using the 30-letter German alphabet, add up to 6. I believe this is the answer to the riddle of the 666.

Germany rose again restored and re-armed to launch World War 2. This beast made everyone worship the first beast, the glorious military heritage of the Fatherland. This nationalism was perhaps more effective motivation than the personalities of the Kaiser or Hitler, but swearing allegiance to either Germany or Hitler was to put it or him before God. This is what is meant by the mark of the beast. The forehead represents the mind, or belief; the right hand represents the will or the choice, the authority of a man. If Hitler couldn’t make everyone believe in his fascism then he could still make them obey.

It was permitted that life should be given to the image of the beast that it could both speak and cause for people to be killed who wouldn’t worship the beast. This was the advent of motion pictures and the Nazi propaganda films. People went along with it all, and anyone who wouldn’t was an enemy of the state. The things that the Nazis did should make it obvious that this was the beast’s dark kingdom. The ten kings who were to be given power like to an hour, a short time, with the beast could easily be the puppet regimes of the occupied countries.

The events depicted in Revelations, when one understands the meaning of the various symbols, corresponds to the first and second world wars, the restoration of Israel, the cold war, and apparently the second coming of Christ is still to come.

In light of this number of the beast turning out to be real, I believe that John really could see the future almost 2000 years ago and that this is proof of God. John himself said there was a God and a Jesus, and that’s good enough for me.

The negative interpretation of “6” would seem to be that it falls short of the “perfect number” of “7” as many ancient people considered such.
