This is a complex subject. It concerns national identity, solidarity and living under a Soviet State that cared little about Ukrainians as a people. Shortly after the Russians left, the people said they wanted the Ukrainian language, not Russian, taught to their children. The same with history. They wanted their own coins. National identity is part of who these people are and it cannot be substituted for someone else’s.

Why on earth are militantly pro-Christian & Patriotic political organizations like the Svoboda and Bratsvo parties, joining with people who want to join the EU and NATO. I find it pretty bizarre.
 
According to Cardinal Lubomyr Husar, the fact that a couple of buildings were occupied shows that the demonstrators are still acting very delicately. The government should thank God that the people behave as they do because it could be worse. This the hierarch said in an interview to EuroMaidan activist Anastasia Kinzerska, commenting on the current difficult situation in Ukraine.
