Oh , I didn’t even look at the second linked article! It’s not just sample size – it’s a sample of men who went into a hospital to get checked! That that article is linked from the other is rather misleading; the second one is about anal cancer in HIV-positive gay men, not about syphilis. It’s still wretched junk though, you’re right.

There are no stats in the article this thread is about and no citations. Given what I just saw, I think it’s safe to assume it’s similarly trash.
