I have extremely irregular menstrual cycles. While I don’t want to take the pill, my husband and I have great need to postpone pregnancy, at least for a little while. (We have 4 little ones, ages 6 and under and my last pregnancy was high risk. My body needs a break!)
My doctors have always recommended me staying on the “pill” while not trying to conceive. I sometimes will not have a cycle for months at a time and they’ve told me that the build up of tissue in my uterus could put me at a higher risk for certain cancers.
Further, due to the irregularities, NFP would be very difficult for me to employ in terms of pregnancy prevention. Charting my cycle and my mucous patterns was very difficult for me when we were charting to conceive.
I don’t want to receive Holy Communion while constantly in sin, but I also don’t want to cause detriment to my health or my marriage. (Husband does not agree with Church teachings on contraception.) Any advice?
