When the hungry Irish came here in droves 150 years ago, they faced the same bigotry that Hispanics now face. Suppose the Know Nothings had been successful in criminalizing them. Should the Irish have stayed home and died of starvation to prove how law abiding they were?

The device the Irish found effective against discrimination was the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Marching en masse, they sent a message to the politicians that they were a numerical force to be reckoned with.

Hispanics have become our largest minority. In the coming congressional election, they will prove their power.

I wasn’t aware that there was a lot of illegal immigration among the Irish population? I am very curious.

Only because laws restricting immigration hadn’t been invented yet.

To me, it isn’t a matter of race, creed, color, or anything else…so long as you can provide for yourself and not expect me to pay for you.

Amen!!! 😉
  • not saying that hispanics DO expect me to pay their way - Anyone is welcome as long as they aren’t looking for a handout.
