I’m wondering if this is an unusual thing or if maybe I’m just paranoid or something. I have this one friend, a female - and she seems to love talking to me on the phone. When we haven’t talked for a few weeks, she has so much to tell me and we could stay on the phone for hours and hours talking about all sorts of things. However, when we hang out in person, things get really awkward for me because it seems like she could care less about talking to me and it sometimes feels like she doesn’t even want to be there with me. Is this normal?

Some people are more open online than in reality, guess the same can be true with the phone.

She might just have a little social anxiety, low confidence, or shyness. I’m kind of shy, so I find it much easier to talk on the phone than in person sometimes. One thing thats a plus, is that she CAN talk to you on the phone for a long time, so that means she probably enjoys speaking with you.

then again, I am not the greatest advice giver, so I could be wrong. :o Merry Christmas!

It might be that she enjoys the illusion of intimacy and a relationship over actually having the real thing. Because the real thing involves risk and can be scary as hell. And it requires work, accomodation of another person, and being real and honest, which many people can’t even do with themselves.

Amen to that!

In my opinion, you can’t have a real relationship with your phone. If she and you don’t click in real life, even if you get into a relationship, what are you going to do? Sit next to each other and talk to each other on the phone? Sorry bro, but the real barometer is whether you click in real life.

I don’t think the OP said anything about getting into a “relationship” in his post…

A relationship is an interaction between two people. I have a relationship with my father, my children, my friend… We need to stop narrowing the definition of that word to the secular usage where it has come to be a euphemism for someone who is a sex partner. Or only to mean the kind of relationship where someone is dating.

That said, I thought the OP was calling her a “friend” because they had not progressed further yet. Most guys spend their time and effort talking to girls toward whom they have intentions other than friendship, YKWIM?

My post was obviously a reply to SomeCatholicGuy’s post, and he was definitely using the word “relationship” in a romantic sense, evidenced by his mention of how they might “get into a relationship”.

If you are a guy and she is a girl and you two are hoping for chemistry…she’s probably just shy and maybe has a crush on you.

Well, call it a guy’s intuition - if there is such a thing - but I felt it was safe to assume that that’s what the OP was driving at. If that’s not the case, I will ask the OP to kindly correct me.
